Model, Niki Taylor, Sues Magazine Over Photos
Model, Niki Taylor, filed suit against British Glamour for taking pictures of the scars she received after a car accident in April 2001. Taylor, 26, underwent a number of surgeries after the accident and continues to recover from liver damage. She agreed to an interview with Glamour writer Andrea Thompson that was to appear in the May issue. She also agreed to a photo shoot. Taylor’s manager, Lou Taylor (no relation) and Thompson reportedly had an oral agreement that no photos would be taken of Taylor’s scars.
As was reported on People.com, according to the legal papers Taylor claims that Thompson required a "different angle" on her story. Taylor says that she was "coerced" into revealing herself because Thompson made her feel "pressured and compelled to cooperate." Taylor, as stated in the legal documents, claims that if the photos were published she "will suffer irreparable harm to her career as a fashion model, embarrassment and humiliation to which there is no adequate remedy of law." Taylor’s lawyer, Stephen Screnci, was denied his request to issue an "emergency order preventing photos from being printed or sent outside the state" by Circuit Court Judge Jorge Labarga.
Taylor was injured in April 2001 when the car she was riding in struck a utility pole. The accident occurred after a night of dancing when the driver, friend Chad Renegar, was distracted by the ringing of his cell phone and looked down to locate it. Taylor was in critical condition after sustaining liver and other abdominal injuries. She was released from the hospital on July 17 and continues her recovery. Taylor got her start in modeling at age 14 and is the mother of twin boys with ex-husband, Matt Martinez.
