Usama Bin Laden: The Man Who Would Be Caliph

Usama Bin Laden has issued a new tape through his personal press agents Al Jahzeera. The tape clearly demonstrates that this individual sees himself as the new caliph of the Muslim world. While there is plenty of analysis going on concerning the tape, it's validity, and the credibility of its implicit threat, there is no doubt in many minds he is deadly serious.

Why this mass murderer has remained at large isn't that much of a mystery. One: intelligence indicates he is living comfortably somewhere along the Pakistan/Afghanistan border. This area is lawless and owes no allegiance to anyone, unless it's to Bin Laden himself. Two: though we have designated forces who most likely have gotten very close to him, they are responsive to directives from Washington bureaucrats. Often having to wait up to 3 levels of permission to go, the target eludes them.

This points up a still serious flaw in military/intelligence behaviors. The men charged with bringing Bin Laden in dead or alive, are a highly skilled professional elite group of soldiers. They are there seeing, smelling and hearing what's needed to bring him and others in to justice. That they must sit waiting, while desk jockeys mull the political ramifications, and argue potential fallout from collateral damage, is absurd. They should be responsive to their field commander and allowed to do the jobs they trained so hard for.

Because of this, and our obvious security issues at home, this would-be king sits and plots our destruction with the myriad groups of fanatics willing to share his "vision" And a huge part of that includes our destruction. The threat he's uttered on that tape is real. Which means we are in serious trouble in the U.S. Through Canada and Mexico, with borders as porous as they are, people inimicable to our interests are very likely in place. And in one sense.. their job is much easier now, given the virulent anti-war/Bush faction. How many of these Bush haters, who characterize him as a Nazi, do you suppose can be recruited?

In the tape for instance, Usama discusses a truce. Cindy Sheehan and others are already yowling that we should negotiate one with him. Wrong...we don't negotiate with the creature who killed 3,000 people alone, on September 11th. We don't negotiate with a creature who's killed our soldiers defending our country. And we don't negotiate truces with psycopath's who have killed hundreds and thousands in Madrid, Bali and London. Not only is it absurd to even consider it, he doesn't want a truce, he wants us dead or under a Muslim caliphate. We don't negotiate with monsters. We didn't with Hitler, and Bin Laden is definitely in the same class- a genocidal murderer, who wants anyone non-Muslim dead.

There have been some signs that things are in the planning stages here: one of the most troubling is the attempted purchase of large numbers of cell phones in Texas, Sacramento California and other places, by people of Middle Eastern descent. Thanks to observant sales people most of these were reported and arrests made. But how many others negotiated successful sales? You might ask, why is this worrisome? Cell phones can be rigged with explosives, causing major damage, as in the London train bombings. And there are enough people in our own radical/lunatic fringe that will be persuaded to help these pseudo-religious thugs.

If you doubt this, look at who carried off the London train bombings. People who had lived there, and blended in with the mainstream populace so well, no one noticed them. Think it won't happen here? Between well-timed leaks, debating over tampering with personal privacy and mass media coverage, mainly negative on the war in Iraq, it will be just too easy.

What can we do as ordinary Americans right now? Be observant. If you notice anything that appears wrong or strange report it. If you know someone who has changed radically in beliefs, or is otherwise not behaving normally, particularly those who may have young, idealistic family members, who might have recently converted to Islam, or expressed hatred and frustration towards this administration and its policies, report it to law enforcement. It's better to be safe than sorry. The lives you save by timely reporting to law enforcement will be very glad you did.
