Tom Cruise Wins $10M in Gay Lawsuit
Tom Cruise was awarded $10 million in his lawsuit against porn actor, Chad Slater, who claimed he had an affair with the actor.
Despite the judgment in his favor, collecting the $10 million may be another story altogether for Tom. It was reported that a Los Angeles judge ruled in Cruise’s favor in December, but the legal eagles behind Cruise did not reveal the news until yesterday. Cruise’s lawyer, Bert Fields, said Cruise doesn’t even know about the victory yet. He is currently in New Zealand, filming "The Last Samurai."
The $100 million suit was filed in May 2001 after gay porn actor Slater was quoted in the French magazine Actustar that he had an affair with Cruise. A second $100 million suit was filed against Michael Davis, the magazine’s publisher, after he claimed to have a videotape of Cruise engaging in sexual relations with another man. The suit was dropped after Davis "publicly asserted that Cruise was not gay" and admitted to not having a tape that would prove otherwise. Slater went on public record saying he never made the statements in Actustar and the magazine printed a retraction, but Cruise was undeterred and proceeded with the lawsuit and won. Although collecting will be a problem, even if Cruise did collect the money from Slater he has said it would go to charity.
Is Tom Cruise gay? Who knows, maybe he isn’t even sure. Whatever the case, these rumors have surrounded him since the beginning of his career and they probably won’t go away anytime soon. People are going to believe what they want and with Cruise’s penchant for suing anyone who makes an untoward peep about his sexual proclivity, it makes people wonder all the more. Cruise claims he just doesn’t want his children or eventually his grandchildren to read about things he never did. Whatever makes you happy, Tom, sue away.
