Athens: Experiencing the History and Mythology of Greece

To experience the history and mythology of Greece, a tour through the legendary cities of this country will open a porthole into the past.
Athens is the usual starting point for most travelers seeking the ruins of the ancient world. Travelers can devise their own itinerary or seek the services of a travel agency. Travel agencies, such as Hellenic, work with travelers to coordinate a trip that suits the individual's needs, including self-guided or fully guided tours. Traveling in a loop from Athens to Delphi, a tourist can see a great deal of the major sights of Greece's history.

In Athens, the collection of ruins in the Acropolis, including the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena, and the Erechtheion temple, are popular tourist attractions. The sights are on a bluff overlooking the ocean, a significant factor in the creator's choice of location. Naupita, considered one of the country's most beautiful towns, is a community situated around a harbor with colorful houses and mansions lining narrow streets. Palamidi, a fortress built by the Venetians in 1715, offers an incredible view of the town and harbor from the top of its 857 steps. A few miles outside the city, visitors can tour Tiryns, the mythical birthplace of Hercules, and the Golden Mycenae, home to Agememnon. Traveling through Olympia, with a stop to tour the city's ruins, travelers reach Delphi. Home of the famous Oracle, Delphi also contains the Sanctuary of Apollo, reached by traveling the Sacred Way.

The country of Greece is filled with a mixture of culture, history, and mythology. To experience all three, travel along the route of the ancient Greeks and explore the legend and reality that gives Greece its mystery.
