Nepal: Adventure Travel to Katmandu

In this capital city of Nepal, adventurers and travelers flock to Katmandu to experience the traditions and culture of its people.
Katmandu is a city of around half a million that brims with tourist travel, totaling the native population over the course of one year. In the 8th to 13th centuries, Katmandu was a main stop along the trail from Tibet to India. The people of the city are warm and friendly, their daily lives prominently filled with the traditions of both the Muslim and Hindu religions. Katmandu is a very busy city, filled with congestion and traffic.

The Katmandu Guesthouse is a popular play to stay, offering nice rooms at an affordable price and is centered in the heart of the city. The Thamel, the travel and tourist district, allows easy access to adventure and travel tours of the area, including the Himalayas. Biking is an ideal way to get around the city, allowing the traveler to explore the less seen parts of Katmandu. In Durbar Square, the center of old town, the Kasthamandap, Katmandu's namesake, offers a place to observe the happenings around town. It was built in the 12th century and is the oldest remaining building in the city. Two prominent Buddhist temples of Katmandu are Swayambhunath, built in the 5th century, and Boudhanath. They are the main pilgrimage sites in the city for those coming to pay homage.

Although Nepal is often considered an adventurers destination, the capital city of Katmandu offers more than the usual thrill oriented attractions. With a little effort, the true feel of the city can be experienced, complete with all the culture and traditions Katmandu has to offer.
