Wall of Names for Museum
Stone walls bearing the names of 76,000 people deported from France to Nazi concentration camps during the second world war will mark the entrance to a Holocaust memorial museum due to be opened by President Jacques Chirac next week to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
The Holocaust memorial museum in Paris's Jewish quarter, the Marais, has been transformed over three years from an archive centre into an institution designed to educate new generations about France's role in the war.
It took two years to compile the list of names, using Vichy and Gestapo lists and 18,000 questionnaires sent out to relatives of the deported.
