Buccaneers, Redskins Play Dirty

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Washington Redskins try to bring their franchises to a Super Bowl by working side deals to bring new head coaches in.
Just when almost everyone in America thought that Bill Parcells was going to be the next head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Tuna decided to jump back into the retirement waters.

Bill Parcells decided on Friday to turn down the head coaching position for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This decision shocked all the sportswriters that have been speculating since November that Parcells was the next head coach after Tony Dungy was fired.

The Buccaneers master plan on landing Parcells backfired and now Tampa Bay has to start actually looking for a head coach. Don't look at Steve Spurrier. He already has a job in the nation's capital after Daniel Snyder fired Marty Schottenheimer after an 8-8 season where the Redskins won all of their games in their last 11 contests.

In both the Redskins and Buccaneers cases, it was very clear that some thing very fishy was going on.

When Steve Spurrier resigned as Florida head coach, it could be easily sensed that he had a NFL job lined up somewhere. The question was just where that was. Enter the sleaziest person in Washington D.C., Daniel Snyder. Knowing full well that Spurrier could be bought, he used him as leverage power in several meetings with Schottenheimer.

Unsurprisingly, Schottenheimer was fired for not relinquishing power on player movement for the Redskins. The same exact day of Schottenheimer's firing, Spurrier was reportedly signed as the Redskins coach. Two days later, Spurrier was announced as the Washington Redskins coach.

The real winner here is Marty Schottenheimer. He takes $7.5 million of Snyder's money and might be head coach in San Diego or Carolina. He also is free from Snyder. Take it from Norv Turner, Snyder is the last person you want owning the team you coach. Spurrier has no idea what he's in for. Say the Redskins don't come close to the playoffs, will Snyder fire Spurrier? He did with the last two coaches. Never trust Dan Snyder.

Dungy must have a smile on his face from San Francisco to Boston. His old team is in turmoil while he is likely to become the Indianapolis Colts head coach.

What the Tampa Bay Buccaneers did to Dungy was disgraceful. They put him under intense pressure all season to go to the Super Bowl or lose his job. This after he turned the franchise and the city of Tampa around from the laughing stock of the league.

The Bucs might lose in the playoffs, but at least they go to them. Nineteen other NFL teams can't say that.

The Buccaneers didn't fire Dungy until two days after the Buccaneers season ended, knowing full well they were going to fire him. Then the Buccaneers owner's sons had the audacity to say that they didn't know they were going to fire Dungy, it was very hard to do so, and they never spoke to Parcells about the head coaching job. Please. Spare the public and tell the truth.

What transpired in the past week for both these franchises is a joke. Here's hoping the NFL looks into these situations and punishes the Redskins and the Buccaneers.
