The man behind Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho is one of the most successful wrestlers in the WWE to date. In the space of four years, he has enjoyed success that most wrestlers could not even dream of. "Babyface" or "heel," he is one of those guys that you either love or hate. Of course, he would prefer it if you hated him!
I never knew or heard of Chris "Y2J" Jericho, until he first hit Raw nearly four years ago.
I never watched the WCW, so I never knew what kind of athlete, wrestler, and entertainer he was.
I am glad that he signed for WWE (then of course WWF), and that fact that they offered him a contract, because without it, we as wrestling viewers/fans would have missed out on some of the best matches, and one of the best entertainers of the past decade, to enter the squared circle.
He is one of the best "babyfaces" in the business, and when the role changes, the best "heel" of the business, and for me, he is a joy to watch.
I know that there are a lot of people out there who do not like Chris Jericho, where it's his character or his wrestling ability, I don't know.
I think, well in my opinion, it's maybe because they don't get the character or role that he portrays.
Jericho has achieved the status that most of us could only dream of, if we were professional wrestlers.
During his current successful run, he accomplished something no one else has been able to do -- he became the first ever undisputed WWE Champion, successfully beating the top guns of the business, Stone Cold and the Rock, simultaneously, in the same night.
At present Jericho's character is, again in my own opinion, one of the best heels on Raw.
He is keeping up with, as some may put it, the top gun of the company, HHH, and is currently teaming up with his fellow Canadians, Christian and Trish Stratus.
For those who don't know of the current story line, Jericho has been wooing Stratus, taking her out on dates, and showing what everyone thought were his true feelings for the small blond. He has nearly gone as far as saying that he is in love with her.
Seems that the feelings were very much mutual. Well, they would have been, if it hadn't been for the fact the Trish, who was about to give Jericho a present, overheard him talking to Christian.
Seems while Jericho is wooing Trish, Christian is trying everything in his power to show Lita that he has genuine feelings for her, after her then boyfriend, Matt Hardy, cruelly dumped her! (Hope your keeping up with me here!)
What Trish overheard broke her heart, and probably the hearts of millions! Jericho telling Christian the he will win the bet between the two of them, and he would "seal the deal" that night with Trish to prove it!
It's at that point that you think, what a complete a******. How shallow can he be?
I guess, though, there is some part of shallowness in him... well, I mean, the character has to at least.
Then again, isn't that what I, and other fans, are meant to think?
I mean he is supposed to be the bad guy and isn't this what bad guys are supposed to do?
The WWE introduced a new part of Raw this year, and gifted us with Jericho's highlight reel, which I love.
He'll ask the questions that you want to know as a fan, but also adds a little twist -- sometimes fans see a very sincere Jericho, then again sometimes you see a complete loser.
Hey, it is all in the name of entertainment!
One of my favorite stories involving Jericho is when he played a "babyface" (good guy).
It was during the Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley era.
Jericho did everything in his power to manipulate, be cunning, and make sure that Stephanie looked rather naive.
Every week, without fail, he made McMahon, look like an amateur, and maybe in some respects she was.
He called her everything, normally stating that she was a "slut" or a "slag," and within a few seconds of this, the whole arena, chanted along with him.
He also thought it would be fun to poke fun at her newly enhanced breasts.
All for the sake of making us laugh, and putting a smile on our faces, so for those two hours, we would forget the "real" world.
Jericho, I feel does get unfairly criticized.
He has been in some of the best stories, the best matches, and is at the top of his game.
I think when the time comes again; Jericho will be an amazing champion, whether he is the good or bad guy.
When HHH, the Rock, Goldberg, Stone Cold and Undertaker decide it's time to give up the squared circle, the guy that will take the crown will be him.
Jericho does his job to the best of his ability, and whether the fans love him or hate him, it's his passion and he loves doing it!
