Who Wants to Date a Hooters Girl?
The latest entry to the race for a Fall 2001 dating show time slot is based on the successful Hooters restaurant chain.
Just when you thought every possible scenario for a dating show had been tried and copied, a new spin has emerged. Although most dating shows have traditionally appealed primarily to women, the new breed of dating show comes with an edge that many males find attractive. The premise of the new Hooters show is very simple. The dating show comic host will be accompanied on stage by three Hooters waitresses from around the country. The audience will consist of approximately 100 male contestants, each of who is vying for the opportunity to date one of the sexy Hooters servers. Although Hooters executives are excited and confident that the show could be a winner, it has yet to be picked up by any New York-area television stations, which represents the first major hurdle in the quest to gain national exposure.
The set of the show will be designed to resemble the interior of a Hooters restaurant and the three Hooters co-hosts will carefully select six members of the 100-man audience as finalists. Through a series of questions, the six finalists will be winnowed down to two, who will compete in the "baseball," or final round, to determine who will date the Hooters Girl. In the carefully named baseball round, contestants will move from first base to second base, etc., with the first contestant to reach home being named the winner. Despite some groans about the premise of the show, Mike McNeil, vice president of marketing for Hooters of America admits, "Our ad theme line from Day One has been 'Delightfully tacky, yet unrefined,' and I think the show is probably going to fit right in there."
