Conan O'Brien wed advertising executive, Liz Powel, on Saturday January 12th in Seattle, Washington. O'Brien and Powel met when she appeared on Late Night for a skit about advertising. They dated for over a year before the comedian popped the question. This is the first marriage for O'Brien. No word yet on where the happy couple will be honeymooning. The wedding took place at St. James Cathedral, during a downpour. The ceremony was private and was attended by close friends and family. Friend and fellow Groundling alum Lisa Kudrow was in attendance. O'Brien's Harvard roommate, Paul O'Brien (no relation), married the couple.

The bride, daughter of Seattle Dixieland band-leader Jake Powel, wore a white, empire-waisted gown which was covered by a lace floor length coat. She carried a matching purse and red roses. O'Brien wore a dark suit, white shirt and cream tie. According to Eonline.com, the minister described the bride to the local news (KING-TV), "She's a beautiful, beautiful, wonderful person in all ways."

O'Brien, an alumnus of the Groundlings comedy troupe, worked as a writer on Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons before he got his own gig as talk show host on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. He was part of a team that won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program for his work on Saturday Night Live in 1988/89. Also, he won a shared Writers Guild of America Award in 1996, for Comedy-Variety (including talk) Series for Late Night with Conan O'Brien.
