Marion Jones, out of action last year after having a baby, will return next month in New York's Millrose Games.
The United States' triple Olympic champion will run in the 60 metres in the event on February 6 at Madison Square Garden. It will be her first race since September 2002, when she won the World Cup 100m, after which she took a break while awaiting the birth of her son, Tim, with her partner, the world 100m record holder Tim Montgomery.
Jones will face a high-quality field which includes Torri Edwards, winner of the silver medal in the 100m at the world championships in Paris last August. That could be upgraded to a gold if the International Association of Athletics Federations disqualifies the original winner Kelli White, who subsequently tested positive for the banned stimulant modafinil.
Jones, and Montgomery, are currently training in the Cayman Islands under their new coach Dan Pfaff.
Millrose will be Jones's first indoor race for six years and will help her decide which events to contest in the Olympics in Athens. She won a record five medals in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, including gold in the 100 and 200m and the 4x400 metres relay. She has indicated she would like to try for multiple golds again in Athens but has not specified the events.
