That Night

I wrote this in memory of my mom who died when I was 3.
You meant so much to all of us,
You were special to us, you can’t deny,
Your eyes shone brighter than the sun,
Your smile brightened up the bleakest midwinter’s day.

But the hatred of god sent you away,
He sent you away from us,
To a place I cannot say.

It was in your bed,
That you last said,
"take care of the others"
Then your bright eyes shut and you were just a memory.

That night we slept together,
That night we cried together
Together we mourned for you,
But god had sent you away,
To a place I cannot say.
