Learning Transcendental Meditation
It is not difficult to learn transcendental meditation. If you are looking to escape from the whirlwind of ringing cell phones, traffic snarls and screaming kids, transcendental meditation can provide a peaceful getaway from the craziness of everyday life.

I am very curious if you actually did learn Transcendental Meditation (TM) or just giving a random advise? Yes Most of what you say about TM and its benefits and the ease of practice are correct but that is it. I have been practicing TM since 1986 and what you are describing is NOT TM. Yes it is a wonderful and easy teachnique to practice but when you prescribe that "the person chooses a word or image to focus on, perhaps a religious or cultural symbol that has special meaning" that is completely not TM. It actually goes against the whole principle of TM and will end up interfering with its effectiveness. The mantra we use has NO meaning for the most important reason as to not have any mental association to it, in order to allow the mind to actually transcend. If there was to be any meaning or association the mind will remain on the cognitive levels and will never go deep enough to transcend. That is why it is called transcendental meditation. TM has been taught orally for ages from teacher to students using very specific mantras. Students do NOT chose their own mantras, Please don't dilute its benefits through a false guidance. What you are describing is meditation but NOT Transcendental Meditation. If you want people to truly benefit from TM they need to learn the proper way. Any person from any religious background can learn and practice TM, but TM does not change according to the religious background of the student. What you are saying is very misguiding. |

"decreased visual acuity" ? Can you explain this? Is there a mistake in printing? "Visual acuity" is good, clear vision. Why one would want it to decrease? Please fix it. Thanks. |
