Robert Your comments are spot on though many therapists make een less than that. Massage envys' cost more to set up and with the econmy changing it is affecting the disposable income people have for massage. And last lets not forget how gender plays a huge role in how many massages you will get and being more to liability than women. 12/22/2007
Julie Onofrio The amount of money that is charged for a massage - average of $60 in the US according to AMTA and ABMP is not what a massage therapist actually makes. If you have your own business you have to deduct expenses for your business - pay the rent, phone bill and pay yourself. After expenses it usually is about $20-$30 an hour that you are making.

If you work for someone else, you usually only get paid a small portion of that $60. Massage Envy employees get paid about $12-$15 an hour. Most employers will only pay between $20-45 per hour depending on the fee they charge and the services provided.

To say that a massage therapist actually makes $50-$75 an hour is just not true.
