Chris I do find this to be a bit unbelievable. As many dinosaur fossils as we've found today and THIS is how it happens? What about entire areas where dinosaur nests are found? I know Protoceratops buried their eggs in SAND. Did this sand suddenly become a muddy marsh and preserve the nests? Plus... what about all the dinosaurs found in the middle of "daily activities" or a predator found engaging in prey found together? I've always been curious how fossils are formed and this was a bit informative, but... I don't know the way they are found reminds me more of Pompeii than some animal that just happened to fall into water or some marsh. 9/15/2008

craig there is no way that erosion by wind, rain or freeze and thaw can remove a thousand feet of hard sedimentary rock above a fossil whose formation was an extremely rare event in the first place and leave it exposed on the surface for a person to find today. 1/25/2008
