The guy killed a hybrid. A hybrid species is not how animals evolve. Most hybrids are sterile. That's why mules (hybrid of a horse and donkey) can't reproduce. It most likely could have never been able to have offspring. Nature frowns upon hybrid animals so a species genetics can stay pure. Polar bears evolved from brown bears anyways to adapt to a harsher environment further north. As the climate changes hopefully the polar bears can adapt. The only problem is, our environment seems to be changing to rapidly. |

It was an accident because the bear looked like a polar bear his guide told him to shoot the bear. I do believe it because animals always crossbreed so it would make sense. The bear was a crossbreed between a polar bear and a Grizzly bear.He didn't know it was a rare bear.nobody can judge the man because he accidently shot a rare bear. I hunt too and sometimes you make mistakes. it was nobody's fault.We have endangered species because of the economy. People don't hunt all rare species because they want to endanger that animal.why do people think such harsh stuff about hunters? I hunt my family relies on the meat.i try to protect animals best i can but still understand things that a lot of people don't understand. :) |

FIRST, YOU HAVE TO GET A PERMIT TO HUNT FOR POLAR BEAR AND IF THERE IF THE BEARS ARE STARVING OR THERE ARE TOO MANY---THEN YOU CAN HARVEST ONE. THE GUIDE AND MARTELL THOUGHT THAT THE BEAR WAS A POLAR BEAR. THE HYBRID WAS A PRODUCT OF MIS-MATING. SO THOSE OF YOU THAT ARE CRITICIZING OBVIOUSLY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HUNTING. I think that it is pretty sad that evolution was starting to take place, and bring what could've evolved into a new species of bear. Do you have any idea how rare of thing this is, the beginning of a new species starts with a hybrid like Lucy(not quite human, and not quite ape, the beginning of man). Then we as human come along and end in one felt swoop the beginning of the new species. It is extremely sad to me that we will not see where this would've take the species. Like they say the chances of it happening again could take millennium. What really bothers me beyond this is that the hunter is happy he got the only one in existence that we know of. What an imbecile. You would think that he could see past his ego long enough to realize he wiped out what could've some type of new species possibly. If this bear would've gone on to mate, and so on we could've discovered a new bear in a generation. I find this so frustrating when the polar bear is struggling to survive, this could've been natures way of evolving a new bear that could survive the climate changes, and this #$%^& is proud that he can say he got the only one. Wow, how self centered can you get; right? |

If the polar bear was truly endangered, there would be no permits given (or sold) for them. (Al Gore is a common liar) The natives need the income from the hunters. For those of you that think it is cruel to shoot an animal, tough...go to Africa, Iraq, etc, etc and there you can see humans killing humans...and they do it without license and in unsportsmanlike fashion, then, most likely just walk away. |

You think the big ones grow big by being stupid? i think that some of our society could really learn alot, if it went back to the way it used, where the cunning exceeded and the idiotic vegitarians starved to death. |

I'm not a tree hugger or anything like that but I just don't get it. In todays day and age with so many other things to do with your money, you still have a desire to go out and kill one of the most beautiful animals left in the world? All for sport, just to say you killed a polar bear?. Makes you feel proud huh? I can understand hunting for food like deer or elk, I hunt and eat both, but I just don't get this. You sir are what gives rich white people a bad rap. |
