Nilesh Often mold toxins from food contribute to oesophageal irritation. i took prilosec for more than a year, my condition only deteriorated. After i started making my pan cakes, from freshly grounded wheat flour and avoiding any cooked food from store shelves. I got better. 12/28/2007
Crystal Walters I agree with Heidi. I've been through all the natural holistic crap, and it's no less a drain on my wallet than the drugs are, the main difference is who the money goes to. In this case, some of it goes to the author in the form of book sales.

I'd suggest everyone who reads this article too keep in mind that the author uses the reader's natural bias against "big pharma" to non-sequitur into "the drugs don't work but this cheap stuff will".

I'm not saying that some people won't find this information helpful, but chances are they are the ones who don't really have that severe a problem in the first place.

Heidi I think that this article is totally biased and one -sided. It doesn't show that many of the people who are referred to as "PPI addicts" are actually people for whom natural remedies and such have not worked. Do you really think that people like being dependent on medication to be able to eat? I don't, but since herbal and natural remedies did not work, taking the medication is the only way that my body can process food. Maybe herbal remedies work if you only have minor acid reflux, but I have severe GERD along with several other stomach conditions. I think that the author needs to do a bit more research about both the pros and cons of taking medications such as Nexium or Prozac, and that people reading this article need to remember that the author is NOT A DOCTOR!! 1/25/2007
Maria Finally, an article on acid reflux written in plain English. Thank you, Mr Richey and best wishes to you!

Reggie McMullen I had no idea that PPI drugs had so many dangerous side effects. This article has been a wake up call for me. I plan to control my gerd by using natural products, instead of drugs. Thank you! 9/14/2006
Marge Donovan A very enlightening piece of writing. I totally agree with Mr. Richey 6/16/2006
