Dixie Chicks Turn Death Threats to Song

In 2003 the Dixie Chicks were condemned as traitors in America after telling a London audience they were ashamed that their president came from Texas. Now the group's angry new song addressing that controversy looks set to become a hit.

Lydia Doofus said: "The real fact of the matter is that Maines (and probably the rest of DC) is REALLY stupid."

Is further comment necessary?

Mary i think that the *little people, of all nations need to rattle that cages of their politicians and let them know they are being watched and that their behaviour is expected to be fair, just ,& true,
people are dying in some countries just to be able to speak out,
we who are able to, should hang our head in shame when we do NOT question what our pollies are doing,

carolyn well said, joe! 6/4/2006
Joe Sarah, Doofus, and Katie are sad examples of how poorly informed people are in our country. Are you not aware of what has happened in the last 5 years? Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda attacked the US. Bush said he was going after bin Laden, but instead of closing the deal, he decided to invade Iraq, based on the premise that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and was developing a nuclear arsenal. Hussein and bin Laden had no connection, but Bush and his administration were so eager to invade Iraq they used the media to create the illusion that Iraq was involved in 9/11. The administration scared us into believing that Saddam was developing more weapons. Even though weapons inspectors said that Saddam had no WMDs and would not have the capability of manufacturing any in the foreseeable future, Bush and his administration manufactured a rationale for invading Iraq, a country that had never attacked us and posed no threat to us. When people began to realize that there were no WMDs, Bush changed his story and said that the reason we invaded Iraq was to topple Saddam, because he was a cruel dictator. Fair enough, but I don't think it's worth 2500 American lives and hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars to interfere in another country's affairs. The administration said that the lives of Iraqi's would improve. They have not. Over 100,000 Iraqis (by conservative estimates) have been killed since we invaded Iraq, and we have plunged the country into a civil war. Now we can't leave, and God knows how many more Americans will be killed before this ends, if it ever does.

Stop relying on Fox News Channel and Rush Limbaugh for the "facts." Our media is controlled by major corporations that care more about profits than they do reporting the news. Speaking out for what you disagree with does not make you a traitor, Sarah. Quite the opposite. A true patriot is willing to stand up for what he/she believes in, even if it means he/she risks losing everything. We don't have enough of that today. Instead, we have greedy untalented performers like Toby Keith who preys upon the rabid nationalism of his fans to sell records.

Calling Natalie and the Dixie Chicks "stupid" or "traitors" shows how little you understand the world we live in and what being a traitor is. And throwing the word "liberal" around like it's a bad word shows how little you understand the history of our country. The guys who revolted against the King of England in the 18th century (another King George) were liberals who didn't stand for the status quo. The folks who outlawed slavery were liberals. The people who fought for civil rights were liberals. Liberals don't threaten the lives of people they disagree with. Liberals don't bomb abortion clinics. Liberals don't bomb government buildings.

Instead of keeping us safe and making our country strong economically, Bush has given tax cuts to the richest Americans (those making more than $200000 per year), gutted benefits to veterans (why would he care? he avoided service to his country as did Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the other chicken hawks who are quick to sacrifice the lives of others in wars), cut funding for education, and ruined our reputation in the world. You might not think it matters what the rest of the world thinks of us, but ask yourself this question. When we REALLY are faced with a threat (not one that Bush manufactured, but a real one), who will fight along side us? We cried wolf this time, and the next time we need help, we won't get it.

Only by the grace of God will this country ever recover from eight disastrous years of George Bush and company looting us for their own benefit.

And by the way, the Dixie Chicks have the #1 album in the US this week. If you haven't listened to it (and I doubt you have), you're only cheating yourselves. It's amazing that people want to ostracize a group that put its principles above everything else, but support a President who has sacrified thousands of American lives for a war that never should have been started and may never end.

Doofus The real fact of the matter is that Maines (and probably the rest of DC) is REALLY stupid. They had a great thing going for em, then they just threw it all away. I mean you sing country music, why would you go say those thing in another country. You know, maybe they speak their mind, but maybe they needed to keep their mouths shut for their sakes.

Anyways, do you think they are great Patriots for making a wise crack about Bush or maybe great roll models to follow after wearing an FUTK shirt?

Also, if you remember their song "Goodbye, Earl", they talk about murdering some guy who's been mistreating a woman. I mean if they were all about peacemaking and no killing and all that, why would they write such an no mercy song?

The fact is that Maines is stupid. She let her mouth overload her backside and now she's trying to ride the controversial bandwagon and exploit America, the 1st ammendment, and worshiping liberal attitude to make a buck.

Doofus Lol I think they big off more than they could chew and are not trying to "peace" together their once successful career! 6/1/2006
sarah hey S.J. are people not entitled to have their own opinions or does everyone have to submit to you and do what you think? back off. its all about freedom of speech unitl someone says something that offends you, right? 5/22/2006
Sarah i think that the dixie chicks should learn to keep their mouths shut and and stand behind the nation no matter what is going on in it. TRAITORS! 5/22/2006
robrad1@aol.com What do I think?

I think ignorant people get uptight rather quickly.

I think ignorant people resort to force too quickly.

I think ignorant people are running the government too quickly.

I think America needs to smarten up very quickly.

Or their government will slow down very quickly.

And then disappear.

Katie After the 9/11 attacks, the country suffered a wound the is still healing. The song "Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue" put into words what a good part of the country was feeling. Then we went to war to stop the violence and mass murder that was taking place in the Middle East. To have someone (Maines) go out and say that a song that expressed the feelings of so many Americans was ignorant and that she hated caused a blow straight to the hearts of the people of America. Hating it is one thing. She has the right to be ignorant if she pleases. When she announced to the world that the feeling of hurt, despair, anger, and rage that the majority of the American people felt was false and ignorant, thats where we draw the line. Then to go on and say that she felt ashamed of the US President, that throws it over the edge. Every world that comes out of Maines's mouth just makes it worse and worse, and I would be ashamed to buy her CDs. 5/16/2006
S.J. Oh yeah, those of you who think the Dixie Chicks are traitors should look up the meaning of the word. The label traitor would better fit someone who, oh, I don't know...exposes the identity of a undercover CIA agent, that could have easily resulted in her death...hmmm...now who in the Bush administration is that? AND Mommy 3, defending freedom is exactly what the Dixie Chicks were doing. If YOU don't like freedom of speech, YOU should move to France... 5/15/2006
S.J. I think the Dixie Chicks should be lauded for speaking their mind. Whether you agree or not, they are artists, this is a FREE country, and we ARE permitted to speak out against our government. If you don't think so, go back in time and visit Communist Russia, or better yet, Hitler's Regime. OPINIONS aside, the girls are great musicians, and artists, and deserve respect 5/15/2006
Daddy4 Thats thier best song yet, eat it up Bush lovers 5/12/2006

Carole M. Teaching your children to defend freedom is not "Teaching them to hate a stranger". 3/31/2006
Mommy3 Yeah, I turn off any station that plays them! 3/31/2006
