Question 1 - Yes. Actually, it is every 680,000 or so. Each district in the country sends 1 person to the House of Representatives every 2 years.
Question 2 - morality is relative. It is defined by the society (or individual) who judges it. (i.e. One can't define pornography, but one knows it when one sees it)
Question 3 - Since it was the people who decided on their rights to begin with, I would I have to say that they have the right to govern those rights! Absolute freedom for all means absolute freedom for none! Compromise is an essential part of ensuring everyone has equal freedom!
Question 4 - As I said earlier. Morality is subjective. And, in this case, we are not talking about morality as much as semantics. In your example, we would have to determine how we define stealing. So, is taking something with a vain or covetous motive is indeed stealing?
Question 5 - I have always found it fascinating that the same people who tout ANIMAL RIGHTS are usually not in favor of the rights of unborn HUMANS!
Question 6 - The examples you used were from the Levitical Old Testament. What is lost here is the fact that these were rules set in place for the preservation of society. These were not (at least at the time of their writing) "religious" laws! You have to take into account the circumstances the people of the time and place lived under. Certainly those laws could not and should not apply to us (in the US) today... |
