Open-D Tuning - the Most Versatile Guitar Tuning?

Long known, but sadly under-utilized, open-D tuning may well be the most versatile of all guitar tunings. Certainly it is one of, if not THE easiest of all guitar tunings. The" visual" aspect alone of open-D tuning makes it a guitarist-experimenter's delight.
