If the victim was attacked because they were homeless.
To attack someone because they are or perceive to belong to a certain group is considered a hate crime. Why homelessness is not covered makes no sense at all.
I have heard it has something to do with overcrowding of prisons. I have a hard time with that one. Now, we put people in jail for sleeping outside even though there are not enough shelters, yet we are concerned about the length of time we put people in jail for murdering our homeless veterans? Our homeless elderly? Kids are murdering homeless people. Why? Maybe because we are sending a message that if you are homeless, you are less than.
Could it be possible that we judge those who live on the streets to avoid facing our fears that we too could become homeless?		 5/6/2008

sammie yeah, homeless people are the same as any other person. they are people just like us. even though they may have no home and live on the streets they try their best to survive. but even you have to admit that the prices have going up and by the time they have enough money there is always taxes to pay. i think we should help them the best we can. i'm a middle schooler and i've been doing a report on this and no one should die just because of it for no reason. whoever beats up homeless people or anyone for that matter, like bullying, it should stop. 2/23/2007
