Joe Borg One of the techniques used in joke telling is to build up tension into the reader's or listener's psyche and then to deliver the cathartic shot or punch line at the end. This can work only if one's attention span is long enough to concentrate on the narrative otherwise the joke can fall flat. Some jokes are too long although one liners are definitely too short, and fall uner seperate categories. Telling jokes, involves many variables not least of which are modulation of the voice or inwriting jokes they should have sufficiently interesting asides to keep the reader hooked.
The length of the joke may not necessarily mean it will bomb but it should have such a powerful cathartic effect that the necessary release of the tension built up resuts aends in satisfactory laughter both for the writer and for the reader. some of the jokes on this website are quite funny and most contributors have given the sub ject much thought others sad to say have been disappointing given the time one spends reading them.
