LindaCorreli Rick, it doesn't matter whether we are talking about SAT or some other tests, good writing skills are essential to succeed in college and future job, and students should understand it in this or that way. Perhaps, there are some inaccurances in my article, though, the main point is that it conveys an idea of importance of proper preparation for college education. I wanted to emphasize the importance of good writing skills for further college or university education. 6/12/2006
Rick I think this article is highly inaccurate. You don't have to be an excellent essay writer to get a good grade on the essay--after all, the evaluators spend only about 2 minutes at the most on each one. Also, the SAT is not considered to be "the most accurate" indicator of college success. This comes from a student's high school transcript. Besides, the reason the changes to the SAT were made was because so many institutions were complaining about how it is not an accurate measure of performance. The new changes to the math section are few, and it is unlikely that there will be many if any complex Algebra II problems on this test. The SAT will continue to be the test it has always been: a test of how well students take the SAT, not of how well they will do in college. 2/17/2006
