I have a very small yorkie puppy that became ill very suddenly the other night. He was the runt of the litter and has only grown to be a pound and a half (despite his ferocious appetite). He began to have difficulty walking and seeing the other day and the vet said it was probably just Hypoglycemia..so we took him home. After that he began vomiting and has been staying at the Emergency Vet's office for treatment. The vets do not seem to know what it is causing this and have run numerous tests. Has this happened to anyone else's yorkie and do you think it could be a Portostystemic Shunt causing it? I heard that they are common in small dogs and I want to know if the symptoms are similar...thank you. |

This is for the yorkie with itchy skin. Diet is usually the culprit. But since he's such a tiny dog I don't suppose you feed him the corn-based kibble most dogs get -- which is usually the problem. My (big) dog was also chewing himself until we figured out a better diet: lamb/rice kibble mixed with half can of wet (meaty) dogfood. A (dermatologist) vet told us the "more protein the better" -- and corn-based kibble (majority of what is sold) is bird/squirrel food not dogfood. Many dogs end up with bad coats and itchy skin due to bad food -- read labels on food. |

This is for the 2-yr old yorkie that died suddenly foaming at the mouth: Did he have a (Hartz?) flea collar.? Type in google "flea collar problem" and you'll see it's not news. My daughter-in-law's 7-yr old Airedale (big dog!) died nastily of same -- in convulsions etc. There is a particular poison in Hartz/Sargent flea collars that KILLS dogs & cats in a most unpleasant way. |

My friend just called me and told me her daughters little yorkie had died. He daughter in bed rest until her baby is due.She is so up set. He yorkie was 2 yrs old, good health and all her shots. She started shaking and foaming from the mouth and then was ok and 10 minutes later it happen again and she called her husband at work and he took the pup to the vet and when the vet came out he said the pup was dead and it would cost $400 to find out what happened. Does this sound like a seizer to anyone. Thanks for any info I can get. Yorkie dies and don't know why |
