MIT Media Labs has raised the bar on computer design again with its new foldable hand-cranked laptop computer, and because it will cost less than a hundred bucks, it will help close the digital divide around the world.

Iain Somehow I think an underspeced laptop isn't much of a solution to the widespread famine and lack of basic human needs that are endured by the people MIT intends to flog this device to. It's sheer profiteering under a misguided belief that computer's are the solution to everything. What's preferable - giving one child a laptop, or buying 100 doses of antibiotics? 11/17/2005
