The thing that investigators and prosecutors overlook in the Straight Edge case is that the fighting is not caused by Straight Edge. Inside straight edge there is a SUB grouping of things called "Crews" which are actually the ones who carry out violently. Just claiming edge means you vow to live a drug free life, then when the kids get involved in crews they generally take on a more violent and organized crime based persona. I guess my big point in this is that Straight Edge is not the gang but the Sub Groups, Crews, are the thugs and gangsters of the group instead of making all of Edge a gang the police should focus on Crews instead.

Also, 'Out of Step' is defiantly a song that relates to straight edge. Makes myself proud to be who I am. But 'Straight Edge' was the song that basically started this movement. |

We choose to live our own lives substance free because we use the power of our minds to expand itself. They call drugs= MIND ALTERING for a reason... they are simply handicapping you, causing your brain to bleed, infecting your bodies, shutting down your awareness, and going mentally insane if used to many times. Look up the facts! Yet YOU call Edge close minded? haha if you continue using you'll end up a jnkie or dead. Thanks for the negative input on this bulletin! For an Edge kid you must be careful of how you speak on the internet. Just saying "WE ARE VIOLENT" doesnt look so good nor is it true! Just because YOU go to violent edge gatherings doesnt mean thats what Straight Edge is about. All of us here that are Edge and positively standing strong for the lifestyle are trying to open those minds of those who call us close minded. As a family of Edge, yes there have been times where violence has taken place BUT ONLY in the SAKE of defendind and PROTECTING those we love(family, edge, friends, woman)
IF threatened greatly. There HAS been a small group of Edge that had to stop three guys from forcing themselves on young girls in a parking lot, so yeah, Edge jumped in and saved those womans lives. Its not based on abuse strictly to those who use drugs JUST because they use drugs, its peoples attitudes that get em in trouble. |

Straight Edge is nothing but family and respect. A deeper concept that users cannot grasp until they finally realize their sick and tired of being sick and tired. Its respect of a choice to live higher lives with strong minds. A choice to stand out whether it be alone or together, and stand for something positive. Straight Edge is a lifestyle. Violence is in the world in GENERAL not the Straight Edge lifestyle. The critics of sXe are simply uninformed by false facts making it so easy to judge incorrectly. I'm not sure what it's going to to take to get it through the media's thick skull... but Straight Edge is NOT a gang.. like said thousands of times before.
Militant Straight Edge, or Hate Edge, are the kids who choose to beat others down for smoking and drinking. They are the ones who need to be worried about, not us. Beating up someone for drinking and smoking is just as stupid and ignorant as actually acting upon smoking and drinking. If you look at the world, there are hundreds of great, successful people who have never been in a fight in their life who choose the Straight Edge life. It's the minority who affect the majority, get your facts straight. It's selfish of all of you to affiliate Straight Edge with the word "Gang" and put kids' lives in jeopardy.

I think that just because some people feel the need to take something too far, everyone should not be punished for it. I am from Columbia, SC. Straight Edge here is completely different. There's no violence or hate crimes. Straight Edge should not be considered a 'gang.' It's not fair to the people who carry on their beliefs of Straight Edge peacefully. |

I've been edge for about 15 years. First off edge is not a gang. Second most edge kids are not violent. But I would be a liar if I didn't say I've seen a lot of fights between edge kids and non edge kids. But like stated before most of the time it is started by the non edge kids. Being addiction free is a good way to live your life. People who bash straight edge and say we are close minded....well I am closed minded when it comes to drinking and doing drugs. I will never be open minded to those addictions. I will never be open minded to needing tose things to make it through my life. I'm strong enough that I don't need those things. FYIE |

You can't be a member of Straight Edge. It's a subculture. You can't say some one is a member of jock or any other teenage subcultures. We rather refer to ourselfs as straight edge kids. Even 20-30 year olds will call themselves straight edge kids. |

Wow, you obviously dont know a whole lot about being straightedge.
It's more focused on being without, like you said, sex, drugs, &alcohol. Also, being edge in a school of 3000+ in Ohio makes you stand out a lot. Edge crews are better described as second families.
Most of the edge kids i know in my school ( me included ) have seen the negative impacts of drugs and alcohol, and most still do.
As this impacts our lives now, we see all that drugs, sex, and alcohol have done to the world. This is why i am, and always will be, STRAIGHTEDGE!!!!
P.s, we actually ARE violent. OBVIOUSLY, you haven't been to edgefest in Ohio, or met someone from cXc. Those people (cXc) i look up to. |

okay, lets make this perfectly clear - straight edge is a lifestyle choice. NOT a gang. just because there are muslim martyrs would you consider all muslims violent, dangerous people worthy of the title of violent gang? no, of course not. just because a small group decided to take it to the extreme, thats their problem. and many of you are probably confusing straight edge with hardline, which is a lifestyle based off of straight edge that does promote violence. i myself am straight edge for 3 years. i wont lie and say ive never touched drugs or alcohol. i have, and know that i am missing out on nothing. ive had friends killed from drunk driving, ive had drugs personally tear my family apart, and other things that completely justify my reasons for taking up this lifestyle. and lastly, standing up for your beliefs is not exactly something new; lets say a christian was approached by a satanist and the satanist insulted the christian and completely spat on his/her beliefs, youre telling me that the christian wouldnt retaliate and say something? it just seems that many of you are uneducated about straight edge and choose to insult it rather than learn about it. |

This is a pretty substatntial article detailing the Straight Edge lifestyle. Sadly though, most people who've heard of sXe have ill views of it. In Denver, CO where I'm from, you'd be hard pressed to find a handful of sXe kids much less a gang. I don't think it's fair to label a couple dozen thugs with lack-luster morals poster children for sXe. It amazes me that people get bent out of shape over a couple straight edge kids getting fights where people are "roughed up" versus the hundreds of thousands that die every year due to alcohol, smoking, and drugs. And we are the cowards? At least we have the guts to face everyday life without the use of mind-altering substances. And if we as sXe are narrow minded, the least I can say is this, at least we still have a mind which funtions properly. So enjoy your slow suicides with substance abuse, me, I'll be relaxing in the subtle bliss that is true conscience. |

Just last night, a drunken frat dude in a toga got up in me and about 15 of my straight edge friends faces screaming at us, saying that he would beat us all up. We had not provoked him, yet there he was screaming at us. All 15 of us could've jumped him and beat him unconscious, and he would've deserved it, but instead we let him rant on and on until he ran out of breath and he finally left. We had a good laugh about it. Are all straight edge kids violent? NO! But this also goes to prove that these fights where there are 15 straight edge guys against 2 or 3 stoners or alcoholics, are often provoked by the 2 or 3, and then the people doing the provoking get what they have coming to them. If I walked into a frat house by myself and started yelling at everyone, it would be 15 frat guys beating up one straight edge kid. It can go both ways. |
