dave good article, some real home truths ive always suspected, the sticky aspect, this is the same as bounce rate? that would make sense, a heavy indication to google if your site is actually worth the visit, 5/3/2009

Peter Bracke Interesting and serious article 10/23/2006
Brian Taylor I think this is crap Darren. I own a business in a very unique industry and only have 11 "direct" competitors. One of these competitors uses keyword doorway pages and cloaks them based on user-agent. Oddly enough, he's the top ranking site for all our competitive keywords and phrases. He was sand-boxed for it last year and it only took him 3 weeks to be back at the top using the same techniques. I've ran my site true to good ethics, but he is stomping us (myself and all comptitors) into the ground and that seems to be the only way to beat him is to play the same game. BTW, he puts about 80-100K into his business each year, while our business gets that injected into it on at least a monthly basis. Cheap service, cheap tricks and yielded him tremendous results and this has gone on for over 5 years now. 10/12/2006

Dude Good article, i'm trying to get good rating for my site. Hope the tricks listed here are working! 9/23/2006
brian harding Well I still see spam being rewarded with high ranks , sites that use excessive keywords, or use terms in their "title" that is unrelated to their site, so have fatih google will still find a way to screw things up. 9/21/2006
maria very interesting article... although i don't think it is fair that whoever registers the domain for 1 year gets "netted" under probable spam. I work in a company where we host around 70 domains and we renew domains ourselves and then invoice clients..... we always renewed for a year because one never knows what might happen.... clients could end up not paying or an agreement could come to abrupt termination...Apart from that I feel that this was very helpful, especially since internet marketing is my main job 9/19/2006
Beryl Thank you. It's easier to follow known rules. Sounds like ethical websites shouldn't have a problem. 9/16/2006

Kirk What is different about Yahoo and Google optimization. We rock on Google and could do much better on Yahoo. Key word "Lake Property". 8/22/2006
Richard Brown This is very valuable information. I am the proud owner of a new e-business called. I recently finalized the site and im now in the process of figuring out how to market it. There are so many different companies that promise number 1 page rankings and thousands of hits for a small fee. But I question the validity of these marketing companies and appreciate good sources such as the information posted by Mr. Darren Yates. 8/20/2006
Jim Mackinlay I think Google is shooting themselves in the foot they are making it so if any given person dont know what their doing they will never stand a chance.

And the IP thing it seems to me how in the world is anyone expected to be able to control who shares the same ip and what they do with it?

This may explain why Yahoo and a few others are gaining ground in the search engine game Google has made it almost impossible for the average person to rank well unless they luck out.

Google dont own peoples websites but I think they are trying to I think they should remember how they got started and get back to the grass roots and not forget who it is that really got them to where they are today THE PEOPLE.

graham Great article. Thanks for the data. It is already helping think long-term about my future sites. 8/8/2006
Reality check! It would seem to me, that if your trying to earn an income on the internet, you have no choice but to spend precious time turning your brains inside out hoping for a good PR. The article re: Google's standards focuses on the superficial and has nothing to do with quality content. It's based on appearances. Google wouldn't have a business if it weren't for all those who submit their websites. They have you working very hard for a little attention. Rebel you are right on! In addition, let's get some human input on websites. If anyone's site is included in any quality directories reviewed by "humans," enjoy the compliment. Let's stop knocking those who present a legitimate complaint as if Google can do no wrong! 7/30/2006

kyle I have a site cellulartraders and I have done everything I can but still my site ranking is 3. What can I do to improve my ranking 6/22/2006
rebel! have recently joined some of them not for Googles ranking but to get some traffic coming to my new site to get it out there and moving - it seems anti free and good web for any search engine to penalize me for that anymore than penalizing some one for advertising their new business in the newspaper or on the windows of other participating stores. I am in fact just plain fed up with the whole search engine manipulation of this industry - they are supposed to facilitate it not control and manipulate it even if it is passive and by default. Rebel! find ways to change this thing - otherwise we serve them instead of them us - I don't believe they have a right to ban anyone unless they have done something "illegal" and they certainly do not care if a high ranked and traffiked site is doing something immoral so who are they to judge it? Besides have you bought anything yourself from the paid advertisers on Google? How many top ten did you buy anything from? Does the real world really care? Or is this just us webmasters folly? 6/16/2006
Asim Bhatti My views for this article are highly appreciative as this article helps the webmasters alot who want to use the google search to promote their websites. 6/9/2006
Arsen. I think the article is great and lots of useful info, but what is "call to action" mean? 6/7/2006
jason helpful, as I have been banned in the past and was
not doing anything deciptive to influence search results.

Ernie I find it disgusting that most every one thinks they have to correct someone for the things they do, even though they understand what they are saying. We always think we are one step better than the other person. Why don’t we take the approach of "everyone has something to offer", for instance; take the article as it is. Obviously we all understood it.
If you think it needs correcting, correct and convert it to whatever suits your fancy in your own mind. Great article, I was kept here for awhile, especially writing this. As you
can see it is another way to increase your ratings, by adding a comment page, I’d say that
was a smart move. I am new to web site construction, tags, and ratings. I have been searching and studying for answers, and more answers. I do have a head start, since my sites have been registered over two years. Thanks for the info, and to let you know, I’m fairly smart and could figure out what you’re saying, even though there was some spelling errors, which I could care less about, but I guess there are a few, that when they come to those errors, they have to stop reading, because they can’t figure out what to do next. No ones explained to them it’s ok and that they can go ahead and continue reading.
I hope you continue with article writing, to share with us all. It was a great help.

Judy Kingsbury Great site, great articles! Much appreciated. Yes, I have it bookmarked. As a marketing person, I have just one thing to add about Google ranking. Keyword relevant content. Give people what they're searching for. It's worth spending the tedious hours doing the research or paying someone else to do it, then spending more hours finding or writing the content. This builds traffic fast , applies to all sites, and should be done at least twice a year. In the real world it's called Market Research. 3/19/2006
Will Great advice, thanks!! 3/7/2006
April Oh yeah. I have noticed a significant increase in my traffic after "almost EXACTLY" after 2 years. 3/6/2006
April I am glad to here that there are other ways to bring page rank up higher with Google. I have been doing my best and tons of work to get a higher PR than 2. I jmp up to 3 every now and then and this searching and searching for places, plus all the emails back and forth gets old. I have hundreds of more products to add to my site and this "Link Exchange thing is getting VERY VERY VERY old." Google needs to give us more info and more variations to gaining PR other than link exchanges with other high ranking pages. To be honest, I have a quality site and have real stuff to sell, and get absolutely disgusted when I see other sites that are NOTHING but click adds rank higher. 3/6/2006
Gwendolyn Thank you! Not only have you painted a clear picture in words of what Google's idea of what spam tactics are, I can take a deep breath, relax, and know that I am on the right track with my website SEO.

Lawrence Deon Really Great Article. Sounds a lot like Cracking the Google Code Under The GoogleScope! 11/18/2005
Chris Conway good information, thanks for passing it on 10/31/2005
Rational It's all pretty good but I'm not so sure about the "1 year registration penalty". The majority of sites get registered for one year only and then get renewed on an annual basis. Even though it makes sense, it sounds like speculation... remember one thing - there is no such thing as THE PERFECT site from a SEO perspctive. Each and every site will have faults and Google (hopefully) knows that! 9/24/2005
Laurie Meade I just discovered page rank while looking for a listing of free content article sites.

This is a very informative article. Thank you for sharing this with us.
