Doctors Separate Fused Legs of Baby Girl With Mermaid Syndrome

During a nationally televised operation last week, doctors at Solidarity Hospital worked for hours to separate the legs of a baby girl born with "mermaid syndrome," and the operation was a rousing success.

Tara I just lost my baby (22 weeks pregnant) and she had a form of this. She had caudal regression syndrome - her spine was missing pieces and fragmented, legs would've been severely deformed. I am so glad these parents have their daughter. Technology & medicine is amazing, but can't fix everything. 8/19/2006
