Don't Tell Liz, But the Sari's So Out

Pictures of Elizabeth Hurley wearing a pink and turquoise sari in New York made the front pages of Indian newspapers last week. But in Delhi, where India Fashion Week is now running, style icons have been looking towards the West for inspiration.

Paula Interesting article -- it would be a shame to lose the Sari. It is very beautiful and elegant even for everyday wear. Must everyone be consigned to blue jeans and tennis shoes -- ugh! what a thought!
Long Live The Sari! and Bravo for Elizabeth!

THEditor What a dumb title for an article. She is marrying an Indian man and attempting to respect his culture. She obviously has a pretty flawless style history and has a reason for wearing the sari, other than trying to be stylish. Millions of Indian women still wear the sari in India and abroad. The editor who let this headline go to print is an idiot. 3/8/2007
Akber Kassam Hollywoods Celebraties Elizabeth Hurley, Goldie Hawn, Jennifer Hawkins, and others young style icons draped in a Indian Sari are giving it a new lease of life.

I think Sari is once more on its way to being an anywhere - anytime fashion item, rather then representative of formal Indian - wear.

You can pass to your favourite one of your daughter and you can wear mum's old ones, for the vintage look that is all the rage there days. Whether you're looking to dress safe or daring, you can't go wrong.

The Sari, wear it with an edge to make a fashion statement, wear it simply to look and laidback, like Princess Aishwarya Rai. My Mum, my wife and my younger sister wear beautiful sari on every weekend, and they looked absolutely pretty. !!!!!

Sheryl Whoever wrote this is jealous, misinformed and has very little fact or knowledge backing this, I agree with all other comments but Tin Tin, majority do appreciate what they have its people like this that try to put us down 2/15/2007
Proud Indian Just like how Jesus time in India was removed from the bible & most wont have the guts to admit or look into it ( very few did) westerners will always try to put the east down because they cant be like them & feel vey threathened, the sari will never die, you can keep trying to take things away from us but will never succeed, we are too smart for you 2/15/2007
Jenny I feel most comfortable in a sari even in my hectic lifestyle & a american teenager would feel comfortable in a jeans a T shirt (i'm 24 yrs old working & studying, planning my wedding, taking care of my brothers after mum passed away) Each person would wear what they are comfortable in so you cant say that I'm more comfortable in your clothes(a bit shallow dont you think - sorry forgot you cant) Majority of indians think the sari is exquisite, comfortable & makes them feel themselves and would not trade it in for anything in the world 2/15/2007
Saieshne I actually found this website looking for pictures to add to a mail that shows how the sari is taking over, which it is if you actually watch the world as a whole and not in your small little world. I think in the fashion world designers use other cultures for ideas and to compliment each other sometimes. its both the western culture that uses eastern aswell ALOT and vice versa. The traditional sari will never die, theres thousands of websites selling & praising the sari. Sold from the USA & UK more than India itself 2/15/2007
Sirusha I do not agree that the sari is going out of fashion, you dont always see it amongst hollywood stars, that alone makes it unique, I'm a south african & majority of woman have left the punjabi/salwar kameez to attend temples and functions, there was a time where they would actually wear skirts and blouses and dresses, but now mostly teenagers and the younger generation, even girls between 3 & 5 are using the smaller version now available. These days its virtually impossible to go to a function/temple or wedding in any western clothing even Christian weddings and not have the people attending in Eastern wear and mostly a sari 2/15/2007
sam I think you are all talking a load of rubbish and need to get a life. 9/10/2006
h patel I am a British Indian girl, and i completly disagree with the so called 'fashion guru's' of India, they have to realise not every Indian over here has lost their culture or heritage, if anything it is the opposite. Sari's are great and speaking for most Indian females we love wearing our trational clothes as they are part of who we are. Those FEW ppl in the east should stop trying to westernise and realise that the east and west are both different in their own rights, that is the way it was meant, and that is the way it should stay 12/23/2005
Tin Tin Saris aren't out of fashion...srop making everything 'Indian' seem stupid and bad! This is the ultimate tragedy of India...Indians themselves can't appreciate what they've got! 7/19/2005
