zeb Hawaiian Volcanoes: Go to the Big Island of Hawaii where the volcano is still erupting. You can get a up-close-and-personal view by helicopter. I took the Blue Hawaiian tour and they flew directly over the cone as well as the flow spewing into the ocean which looked like a big cloud of smoke. I also hiked to the top of Mauna Kea -- in the snow up to my ankles -- in February. Adventure guide: Hawaii The Big Island Trailblazer to get around. Place I stayed: room at Arnott's in Hilo. Both were top notch. Snorkel the Kealakekua Bay near the Cook Monument. Rent a kayak to get there. For volcano watching and hiking, this is the best island to experience one that is still actively ripping and rumbling. You can hike to actually see the lava flowing. 5/14/2006
