Ad-hoc testing is a type of testing which you do once and do not wish to repeat it unless it is successful in finding out an unknown bug. In ad-hoc testing, we perform any test scenario that strikes our mind ... its just like leaving your home for a walk and not deciding where you plan to go? You just keep walking and won't turn to that path if you don't come across something beautiful. But once you came to know that there is something beautiful site on that road ... you surely will go back to visit the site. Exploratory testing on other hand ... is a further step of ad-hoc testing. In case of exploratory testing, you decide to try out each and every possible test scenario that you can think of ... and best thing is that you can again and again repeat the tests as you had perfored the first time.... talking in terms of walking from home to go somewhere just as given in above example ... its just like leaving your home to reach to a decided destination ... you go by all possible paths but surely reach the destination in the end ... and for sure ... can try the same route again and again! In this case, you may go through same route even if there is no beautiful site between your home and your destination. I hope this explains the difference between ad-hoc and exploratory testing.
Please correct me if I have mistaken somewhere, as I am also a learner!!!
Regards,

Hi Nilesh, I think there is fine line drawn between the Load Test and Stress Test....The Load Test Can be summarized as something where the device is taken to the point of failure or degradation and brought back again whereas in Stress Test, the device is taken to the point of maximum load and sustained there for specific duration, say 24 hours...Ideally to me, there is no much difference to me, about the definitions that you have given.....for Stress and Load tests |

Hi Lakshmi One quick update on Smoke Testing the literature of smoke is basically belongs to hardware guys not for software testing folks In intension of testing any hardware device that completes the cycle of inputs or outputs with out any smoke in the circuit or VLSI thats why it is a Smoke testing Same what we do in our testing is called Sanity Testing to check the readiness of the application for testing So software testing guys never use or say Smoke testing in your testing activities Kindly let me know if you need any clarification With Regards Vijay Kumar S vijay at intelesoftech dot com |
