Ohhh.. I feel bad for you...I mean it's so easy to bash born-again christianity with little "sound-bytes" and run your mouth - especially to someone who's newly saved - rebuttles for everything you've presented as problems exist and clearly your friend was very emotional and defensive - who thinks clearly then? Only perfectly righteous things can be in heaven - God was gracious enough to provide a way for us as imperfect creatures to receive his righteousness so we might be able to go to heaven. Also - as far as Jesus only arriving on the scene 2000 years ago - you're absolutely right to wonder if everyone beforehand went to hell. However, you're painfully ill-informed as to the actual details and nature of doctrine as a whole - the Bible doesn't say everyone beforehand went to hell - the Bible says everyone beforehand was dealt with in a different way - ie, under the Law and required to sacrifice.. In the new testament, the Bible expicitly states NOW you don't need to sacrifice, because I'm providing ONE sacrifice for ALL for ALL time. And for that matter when that sacrifice, Jesus Christ, died on the cross, he forgave EVERY sin of EVERY person they would EVER commit or had committed. So I'm not worried about sin - because it's already been forgiven - does that mean I should go around and sin? No - the Bible tells us that we are to live a life of good works to honor God - but they don't count toward whether we go to heaven or not, they count for REWARDS in heaven - SO, as you can see, it's not that crazy of a concept - in fact it's the best deal out there - you don't have to get hung up about whether you live the "right" life and you every supposed "contradiction" has an explanation if you honestly wanted to know it. Lastly, as a born again christian, I would like to say your friend was wrong about making it sound like he HAD to throw out all his cds, or HAD to abandon all his other interests - that's legalistic. We don't HAVE to do anything except believe our sins are forgiven through Jesus. Everything else is an individual's conviction - I, for example love the Beatles, the Stones and Bob Marley. Your friend misrepresented born-again believers accidentally - which doesn't surprise me because he was so new to the faith and what we call a "babe in Christ" - that is someone who has only just begun to study the Bible and has yet to grasp certain understandings. |

I can't live my life in the fear and worry of what happened in the past and what will become of my soul in the future. I can believe that God or a good higher power exists, and exists here on earth, and we are all a piece of God in our soul and matter. I believe he sent Jesus to model how we should live our lives and reach that connection with God while we exist. I think many of the teachings in the bible, jesus experiences are metaphors or symbols, may or may not really happened, to teach us lessons and perceptions of how to be christlike.

No one can force anyone to believe anything, so arguing is ridiculous. I believe with all passion and faith that Jesus Christ is the son of God who takes the sin of the world. Why? Because i have seen miracles happen, true actual miracles. The healing of a woman with cancer, demons leaving the body of a defenseless child. I have felt his presence, and anyone who has not cannot even try to comprehend it. I know what it is like to not serve God, and what it is like to be his Child. I've been on both sides of this. Good Luck |

Dan,
I'm glad you found it funny.
As for 'two fools in conflict', looks like you've hopped right on the bandwagon with us. :D
After all what do you really know about ANY research that I've done?
And saying something is true or right (or not a myth) because there are 'Billions of believers' is not correct logically speaking.
There are after all enough (if not billions) that believe as implicitly in Scientology, Intelligent Design, Wiccanism, Nazism, Fairies, Leprechauns, Unicorns, Santa Claus, Ghosts, Animal Sacrifice, Idol Worship, the Righteous War in Iraq, and so on. (I'm not grouping all these together, just giving examples of different beliefs)
With enough propaganda – to paraphrase Goebbels – 'billions' can be made to believe absolutely anything.
But you're right in saying this - "Because if you believe in something than it should stand the test of history. Never get mad when some one challenges your belief if you can't explain it."
Such a pity to spoil a good argument with irrationality and ill-temper.
Thank you for stopping by.
Sonal :-) |

It's funny to read or listen to a conversation between two people that haven't done ANY of there own research in to the subjects they think they know about. This is a good example of Two fools in conflict. First thing I would say to the so called non believer is don't be so quick to put aside a theology that would take at least a good year to research the history of Christianity. After all, there aren't billions of believers in this world because it's a myth.
As far as the so-called believer, I would say before you take on any belief, be sure you can give a reason for the faith that is in you. Because if you believe in something than it should stand the test of history. Never get mad when some one challenges your belief if you can't explain it. And don't break off friendships over differences in opinion. If your friends you will not only listen but also you do what you can to understand them. Thanks!

But today Im born again...Im glad i have a God who died for me....You are right....You will never understand God....cos that is how awesome He is.. You should take some time behind shut doors. Ask the lord Jesus to come and proove himself to be God, if He is the true God....and if you do this with an open heart to accept the real truth, i can guarantee you that He will appear to you. |

Why even debate about it, as budge says, unless your hungry for truth...which happens when you have tried to find peace usually through something that completely catches you off guard...then you will hunger for Jesus, and He knows when and that is when He will call you and then it's your choice to beieve by faith and receive the free gift of salvation...God is so patient, and He knows the hour He will prick sonal's conscience...He loved us first and we cannot earn it because He gives it freely...now that's the one and only true God...it seems that some get caught up in the debate generally because it's what they learned from society...until you reach a point where you can't control something you thought you could will you humble yourself and cry out to God because He has been waiting all along...you'll see...I'll lift you up in prayer sonal and I believe you will hear from our Lord...we think we have freedom when we are free to believe in what we want to believe, but we are all prisoners of some sort...and I'd rather be a slave to a God who takes interest in the smallest details of my life...and yes, He has answered very specific prayers in my life which increases my faith even more each day...you think your friend would have such strong convictions of a God and be willing to risk humiliation from you and others if it didn't really make a difference in his life...if it were just a small difference why would he bother debating with you...anyway...I'm not here to convince...before I was born again, I thought anyone with a bible was wierd and scary...now that God has taken me out of darkness and brought me into the light...I've received wisdom that's not of this world...so a person who doesn't chose to receive the good news and the Holy Spirit to indwell us, would not be able to understand...in fact it sounds foolish...so you are reacting just as I used to...jackie |

We could all argue our own respective points and get nowhere - God does not force us to come to him so what right have we to force others? I believe that our duty is to help mankind, of which we are all a part. I became a born again Christian in 2003 after an amazing experience - I am selling my book on my website but if any of you reading this article would like me to email you a FREE copy (no strings attached as I have nothing else to sell) which you can download just send me your email address to info at aspecialjourney (this is a com address) and I'll get it to you. |

Well, Budge, like you said we have "met" for a purpose. ;-) No, I'm not a former Christian - just an avid reader, past, present, and future.
Yes, I'm quite aware there are 'good' parts in the Bible as well. And I like quite a bit of it for the literary value. But I don't think that holds any water for 'believing' in it. There are some 'good' parts in the Communist Manifesto as well and that doesn't make Karl Marx my personal deity.
You said - "As forall the verses you picked ..if that were the whole bible i dont know if i would be a Christian either :)"
I have heard that argument from many religious people (not just Christians) and it seems to me then that they pick and choose what they want to believe.
And if someone likes to believe only in the 'good' parts, it is quite possible that there are others who may chose to believe only in the 'bad'.
I think that if people are creating Religion to suit their own likes anyway, why stick to labels?
Why would I want to plagiarize someone else's idea when I can cook up my own recipe?
As for what will it take for me to believe in God - an unmeasurable dollop of self-deceit, I imagine.
I suppose we could continue this discussion for a long time - I refute, you defend, and on we go - it would be quite fun, but it would also be ultimately fruitless.
You said - "(Christianity) is all i have to hold on to besides the changes in my life and my being."
I respect your need to believe in something that supports and sustains you at this point in your life.
And I think you should respect my right to have utter disbelief in what you believe.

hmmm.. good point. Thank you Sonal Well another reason for needing Jesus! Forgive me sonal.and Muammar. As forall the verses you picked ..if that were the whole bible i dont know if i would be a Christian either :)I am impressed that you have read so much of the bible, "The Good news" is in the New testement There are alot of verses that you could take out of the bible in the old testement about the wars between the Israelites and others, about worshiping pagen gods and other sins that angered God and the punishment he gave,(can you imagine being lost in a desert for 40 years and still following the Lord?! wow thats serious faith!)...definately glad in am in this world after Jesus has come and delivered us from the old law and gave us the new one... I also have some favorite verses...
Then Jesus said," Come to me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens and i will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke fits perfectly and the burden i give you is light." Matthew11:28-30
The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;he rescues those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm34:17-18
You have heard that the law of moses says,"Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But i say, love your enemies!...if you only love those that love you, what good is that? Matthew5:44-46
But when the holyspirit controls our lives he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness and self control.Galatians 6:2-23 ..oh while im thinking about it sonal you seem to be very educated and passionate person, and i wish i was a better "typer" so we could have this discussion in more depth because im running out of patience for myself!..also may i ask have you been a christian in the past and something happen? Isaiah 43:1 I have alot of faith in Christianity and that is all i have to hold on to besides the changes in my life and my being.. jeeze i know i am jumping around but there is so much i feel i need to say. Colossians3:12-15Hebrews11:6 Isaiah41:101 corinthians 10:13... John3:16 Acts16:31...dont want to overload you if you are interested in reading these...thank you for the ongoing letters of your thoughts as well.. what would it take to have you beliveve in God....if you are not too busy i would like to hear your thoughts again-Budge |

Budge - What happened to 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'?
You know, other people are as entitled to believe in what they want the same way that you are. They are as entitled to go around telling other people that THEIR religion is the only one around worth following. That it was the one that changed them and that they expect it to change everyone else too. (I personally don't think anyone's entitled to jump to such conclusions, really, but if the field's an open season for one, it's an open season for all).
You chose to believe in Christianity. He chooses to believe in Islam. Same piece of nonsense from my angle.
But, while Allah is right up there with the Just God on my list of disbeliefs, I'm kind of bothered with your remark - "Yikes! isnt allah the one who tells you to kill others in order to get to paradise!?"
I'm always bothered when the pot calls the kettle black.
Read this - I quote directly from the Good Book - The Bible, I mean, not the Koran -
1. "On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn--both men and animals--and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD." Exodus 12:12
2. "Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD. Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves." (Numbers 31:16-18)
3. "And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain." (Deuteronomy 2:34)
4. "And we utterly destroyed them, as we did unto Sihon king of Hesbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city. But all the cattle, and the spoil of the cities we took for a prey to ourselves." (Deuteronomy 3:6-7)
5. "Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree: And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place." (Deuteronomy 12:2-3)
6. "If anyone secretly entices you--even if it is your brother, your father's son or your mother's son, or your own son or daughter, or the wife you embrace, or your most intimate friend-- saying, "Let us go worship other gods" you must not yield to or heed any such persons. Show them no pity or compassion and do not shield them. But you shall surely KILL them; your own hand shall be first against them to execute them, and then the hand of all the people. Stone them to death for trying to turn you away from the Lord your God." (Deuteronomy 13:6-10)
7. "Suppose a man is caught raping a girl who is not engaged. He is to pay the girl's father the bride price of fifty pieces of silver, and she is to become his wife, because he forced her to have intercourse with him. He can never divorce her as long as he lives." (Deuteronomy 22:28-29)
8. "…If however the charge is true and no proof of the girl’s virginity can be found, she shall be brought to the door of her father's house and there the men of her town shall stone her to death..." (Deuteronomy 22:13-21)
9. Now go, attack the Amalekites and totally destroy [1] everything that belongs to them. Do not spare them; put to death men and women, childrem and infants, cattle and sheep, camels and donkeys. (I Samuel 15:2-3 )
10. "...I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the light of this sun." (II Samuel 12-11 )
11. "The righteous shall rejoice when he sees the vengeance. He shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked." (Psalms 58:10)
12. O daughter of Babylon, who art to be destroyed; happy [shall he be], that rewardeth thee as thou hast served us. (Psalm 137:8)
Happy [shall he be], that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones. (Psalm 137:9)
13. "Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword. Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished." (Isaiah 13:15-16)
14. "Pass through the city after him, and smite; your eye shall not spare and you shall show no pity; slay old men outright, young men and maidens, little children and women..." (Ezekiel 9 : 5-6 )
15. "I gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances by which they could not have life; and I defiled them through their very gifts in making them offer by fire all their first born, that I might horrify them; that they might know that I am the Lord. (Ezekiel 20: 25-26 )
16. "The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their pregnant women ripped open." (Hosea 13:16)
17. But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring them hither, and slay them before me. (Mark 9:34)
18. Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. (Luke 12:51-53)
19. If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:26)
20. But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me. (Luke 19:27)
Verily I say to thee, Forget Paradise, the Bible God is all set to make life impossible right here on Earth. (Sonal Panse)

sonal, our God is a God of Love, not the one you speak ofThat is what makes Him so awesome! However He is also a Just God and cannot tolerate sin but the good news is that He loves us soooo much that he doesnt want us to perish for disobeying His laws(ten commandments) because even the most holiest of the holy could not live up to them everyday of his/her life!! (defintly not me!)That is where Jesus comes in!!! ...(Even if you doubt Him, wouldnt it be better to live by "love your neighabors as yourself" etc. then to live for yourself?) ...anyway, when Jesus died on the cross God put all of my ,your ,the worlds sin on Him. So when God looks at us now,He sees us though Christ as perfect beings..Because our sins have been paid for at the cross!! We are free! Very awesome!..that my cliff notes version :)hope that helps explain my dedication and love for our Lord
And to answer your other question, I didnt have anything left to lose! So I trusted the Lord with everything I had left and He pick me up out of the miry clay and carried me to soild ground!! You will have your own journey, your own seasons to weather..But please know that if and when you feel like you are lost or have nothing left ..call out to God and I promise He will pick you up and save you the way He did with me and many others! thanks for writing back-Bridgett |

thank you braydon for understanding me my Irish brother, yes it was a personal situation that brought me to my knees, you may be happy go lucky buzzing along in this world ,God bless you for it, but when your happy you dont think you need God, (from personal experience, not you braydon sorry i get fired up for the Lord) Braydon havent you ever called out to God,for anything or any reason? havent you ever thanked him for the beauty you enjoy?(ie:"thank God its a beautiful day!" Even I believed in God before I was saved,(born again christianty is about a personal relationship with the Lord)You are right there is beauty all around us and lots of wonderful people, but this world has lots of darkness, maybe i have experienced more of it then you have, that is good though because i would not wish it on anyone,Iwish you the best on your journey in this world, but we have "met" for a purpose nothing is accidental, so i hope i may have helped you in some waynow or sometime down the road-Bridget |

Budge, what makes you think that someone else going through the same kind of experience as yourself will necessarily reach the same conclusion? |
4/25/2005 |
| Lord Braydon |
Budge, if it worked for you, fine. It's your life and you can believe in anything you want if it makes you feel better.
I myself believe in Leprechauns, because I'm an Irish greenhorn and like to toot it.
Seriously though, when you say you pity because you have been there, aren't you presuming that the other person (presumably me?) is 'there' in that exact position right now?
I sincerely assure you I'm not.
I don't think the world is dark and out to destroy anyone. I could never operate on that premise. I think we have a lot of beauty and wonderment around us. I always think of the world in terms of kind people I still have to meet and beautiful places I still have to visit.
I don't think the Christian God - or, for that matter, the God of any other religion - is the only available choice.
I don't think 'God' even needs to be a choice/requirement for anyone to be an eminently tolerable human being.
And that's all that really matters, eh?
To tolerate and be tolerable?
Cheers. |
4/25/2005 |

Not being smug Braydon, you misunderstood me. I was not always saved. I once stood in the darkness of this world. I pity because ive been there, I also once doubted, but you will not understand until you reach a point where you only choice is to trust the Lord and give Him your pain and troubles, or let this world distroy you. |
4/24/2005 |
| Lord Braydon |
Why do some Christians generally assume that everyone except for them live in darkness?
Before you apply the Christian Pity (I'm sorry you feel this way), get rid of the Christian Smugness, dear Budge.
Or you ain't budging no one, mate.
