Dog Behavior - Warning Signs

Dogs are great pets and companions. By observing their behavior with other dogs we learn how they interact, however, dogs overreact or are provoked sometimes in those situations which could cause potential harm or injury. As owners, we need to read the warning signs to avert escalations.

K The information here is all incorrect. Domestic dogs could possibly be pack animals, there is no evidence to either confirm or denie this. The term 'aplha male' etc are also false. They come from inaccurate studies of capitive wolves and have since be proven wrong, there is only ever a breeding pair (male & female), there is also no ranking system or 'hierarchy' either. The main issue is that al these wrong words first used on these earlie studies of wolves in the 1940's were then transfered onto the domestic dog. In actual fact these animals are very different behaviour wise. The communication signals discribed are not to show dominance but with what you may see as aggresive behaviour is actaully appeasment and anxiety signals.

It really annoys me that all of this information can be published when it is totally incorrect. Using aversive meathods to train your dog will only have it live in fear of you.

Rhayden me I see a change in their eyes that tells me they are about to do something. It is not good it mean to bite most of the time. I notice most can't see this but I do. Do you notice this just before a bite. Body posturing is also a clue they stand diffently but I can't say how you just know it when you see it.
