Hi Ruchi,
Well in your case changing career line from development to testing may be an easy step as you are already in IT field and have gathered good experience, but all you need to understand is that it may give you less returns! If you are fine with lower salary than what you are earning right now from your current job (its not true always), then in that case you can surely try your luck in testing!
My advise for you would be: 1) Try to understand software testing field and learn various processes and concepts that are used in this field. 2) Instead of leaving your current company and searching for a job (testing) in some other company, try first for the possibility of getting into the testing team in your own company (if any such team exists) ... it has its own advantages! 3) Attend some Testing Course (which is a waste of money as per my understanding!)
Keep posting! Take care! Nilesh Parekh |

Hi Arun, There are many institutes that are promising loads of things, so choosing one suitable for you is your responsibility. I would suggest: 1. Go for the institute which has good placement record 2. Try to find out if the teaching is of GOOD quality and COMPLETE! 3. Now a day, there are many tools introduced in market, find out which tool is hot in testing field (like Rational products, Mercury products etc.) and then carefully choose your course(s). 4. Keep your updated resume posted in all possible job sites 5. The most important part of going for any course is to get prepared to face an interview ... so work towards that direction ... try to figure/find out which are all the things you should be knowing in order to compete for a job in Testing. 6. Last but not the least ... STUDY WELL ... that the only way to secure a good job!
ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR BRIGHT CAREER!

Hi Nilesh I found your articles particularly useful as a beginner for Software Testing. I am a student doing my Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from N L Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research. My area of Specialization is in Marketing+Systems. As part of our curriculum we are required to do a research on Software Testing and its applications in various verticals. So we would be really thankful if you could provide us with some more information about it and related links form where we could get detailed information.
Thanking You

Software Testing is a process of execution of a software to verify that software meets with its specification or user requirement or not under development process. we can also say software testing is a process to find out bugs. |

It is good article to know basic of testing. It is explained in very simple words. But i think the part 'Whar is the role of a tester?' is very short. Finding bugs/error is a major role of a tester. Also he has to verify the working functionality is proper or not. If we start testing early tester can play major role in getting requirements more clear than any other. As 'Validation', 'Verification' is also a major role of a tester. |
