i just submitted a poem to white oak express for free and it got published in a book with about 200 others. it didnt ask for money, it only asked if you wanted to buy the book. it seemed pretty legit. |

My friends and I have said their piece. Please, do the same. You will save a writer's ego. I support Megan--- you deserve to be punished for cheating people. You won't like if someone ripped you off. You will get yours! Just you wait! |

Kitty the correct spelling is "brilliant"... I know your mad but spelling and proper grammar is important. Beside that, she is right about the site (see BJ's comment to find the one she is suggesting) being a complete scam. |

I think BJ is a liar. More people on this site had more negative things to say about the site mention below. Had more concerns about being blind side! Each time my butt! No one is that brillant! Liar! |

Okay, my friends forced me to protest, but I told one of my friends not to send their things online anymore because I send a poem out and got nothing for it and sent money for some CD and a book. Nothing! I was heated. I'm warning everyone to simply find legal means to get their work seen or face grave disappointment. Some should be able to sue! |

My friends JO and SW, rushed my cell, texting me about online poetry scams. They so think everyone should do the same and tell all writers to be on the look out for big time losers who are desperate for money--- more desperate than anyone. My friends totally are thinking everyone should come to this website and place comments here. This is so messed up. |

My best friend was so totally angry when she found out her poems weren't going anywhere. I had a feeling the online site she sent her works to wasn't worth the time. I feel bad. |

I submitted two poems to poetry contest online. I simply got letters saying that I had won but never got money. But I didn't buy any of my work back (like I could afford?). I didn't lose money but I did lose a sense of trust. I hoping I still have legally rights to my poems. Considering now, that I heard it's a scam I'm a bit--- no mega-giga-ultra to the power of 50--- at the high of wrath. |

How about listing some places that are NOT scams...? that would be more helpful. |

I know this well. Submitted one poem to Poetry(.)com and suddenly they loved it so much I was ready to become a published poet: as long as I had a some cash. Then they invite you to a convention in Las Vegas, trick is, the convention costs hundreds.
While it was tempting, I am proud that I have not spent a single dime.
This is the lowest form of life on this planet, praying on people's creative talents. It invalidates the true and validates the pure. Scumbags, everyone of them. May they rot in their own poetic hell, confined to the fiery gates of a demise most suited. |

I wish I knew some place to enter my poetry that would tell me what they really think of it...Can you tell me of such a place? |

I can't believe someone could use something as beautiful as poetry to run a scam on people but you know one day their judgement day will come and when it does I'll just be glad I'm not them. |

Thank you . Someone commentied earlier that they did in fact recieve their winning. This is in response to that. Yes, it would be nice to win money or get reconition for their writing. However, thousands, hudreds of thousands of pieces have been created by some of the best writers in history and were never submitted online to get a hundred bucks. I am not agianst submitting your poetry, thats how we and up with it in print and get to take it into our homes to absorbe and appreciate. If people didn't do it, then I would have nothing to read on the weekends. However, I do believe that it is also ok to NOT submit to these things depending on your motive for writing. Alot of pepole write for themselves, not to get their name in print. Dickinson wrote 1775 poems, she was denied publication many times. However, continued to write and wrap them up in little bundles in her desk. So thank you for the information, I do appreciate it. If you want to get your work published like this, do it. But don't preach to the one's that don't. |

Dear people who have supported poetry . com, let me assure you that it is a scam. They will give you awards and all, trust me, that is the only thing true about them. But remember, each time you send money to them, you are not evaluating yourself as a poet, but BUYING an award. THAT is where the scam lies. You may read the following article at the Quill & Ink to further understand the scam: EDITORIAL - MAY03

I have entered multiple poems at poetry.com. Each time I have won and even followed through with one of the conventions, didn't go but did get my awards and everything, so I don't believe that it is all a scam. If people are writing totally sucky poetry then maybe they shouldn't be writing in the first place. |
