S Pickard There are no references or attributions in this article. "Studies have shown" and "Years of research" need documentation. Where are the studies on time wasted at the water cooler? This is not peer-reviewed research, it's just opinion, and does not address down-side issues, e.g., IRS regs on home-based offices and the shift of costs to employee for furniture, supplies, A/C, TP and soap. It doesn't address the issue of employer expectations; e.g., would they still want employees to work 9-5, not take a long lunch or go shopping? And assumptions aren't challenged; e.g., feedback and support are not necessarily soft, fuzzy, feel-good characteristics. Feedback can keep a project going in the right direction; support may be needed for success and can be called mentoring. I'll continue to look for the real hard work associated with documenting the effects of telecommuting. 12/27/2007

Are there govt grants available for business who encourage telecommuting...(ie energy and environmental impacts)?
