TPSicotte It doesn't work when parents are angry. It usually just reinforces the behavior. Studies have repeatedly shown this. It can work if parents also positively reinforce desired behavior. However, it is completely unnecessary as their are so many alternative. Parents will have a hard time telling their children to be peaceful and not to hit others if they themselves are spanking their kids. It is really just bad role modeling. kim Sorry my comment should read NOT spanking a child does them more harm than good. Kids need spanked. Too many parents nowadays are trying to be friends with their kids instead of being a proper parent! 10/1/2010
kim I have to agree with Karie, spanking a child does them more harm than good. I was spanked as a child and it never did me any harm The only out of control kids I know are those whose parents think like you, wise up and discipline your kids correctly, they deserve it! 10/1/2010
katie This is what is wrong with today's society - Your Comment Never Spank Your Child is just ridiculous, children get away with far too much today with little or no consequences, thus our society is out of control. Bookworm17 When I was little and did something wrong, my father spanked me, my mother stood me in the corner. I find both to be equally effective in my case since I didn't press my luck with either of them. It didn't scar me for life and I don't consider spanking to be a bad form of discipline since a simple swat never hurt anybody. That's all we're talking about, a quick swat on the behind, not getting a switch or tearing them up with a belt buckle. 8/21/2007
