Susan Help me please. Does anyone know an answer to my problem. I have had 4 glass panels replaced on my balcony, but the magpies peck away the putty before it can harden. I have replaced the putty & painted it immediately, but still they peck it away. 1/12/2008

johnmr12 Valerie, in my opinion, it's not necessary to prime your wood before applying the putty. If the width of the area to be puttied is relatively narrow, you can use a good acrylic latex caulk in place of putty. You cut the tip on the fat part, and make a 45 degree cut with a razor blade. It comes out of the tube at just the right width. I only recommend this method for experienced caulkers though. Or, practice on the windows in the back of the house first. 1/30/2005
Valerie John,
Do you recommend priming the wood before applying the putty?
