Oh I'm sorry! I guess you are right about the anconda being the largest. The reticulated Python is the longest. The anaconda does seem larger in the diameter. Thanks for the info. |

I am not sure about the "Anaconda" being the largest snake in the world. I read something in the scholastic book of world records the stated that the Reticulated Python was the largest so I can't fully back you up on that subject. |

The reticulated python is not a longer snake then the anaconda. Anaconda are longer and heaiver. It just that people cant find big anaconda. They are way stronger than reticulated python. Anaconda eat jaguars. |

The Green Anaconda.. tisk tisk tisk, of course is is the worlds largest snake. Largest does NOT mean longest. Its overall the largest snake due to its mass. Please people... dont be ignorant enough to think that largest means longest. Pshhh next question. |
7/21/2005 |
| Marcus |
The green anaconda is certifiably the world's heaviest snake, but it's still up for the debate as to whether it's the longest. That title is still officially held by the reticulated python. There's a small chance that a giant specimen exists in the wild, but with their natural habitat in danger, a monster like that would most likely have a hard time making it, it'd have to be in a zoo. |

And as for it being the largest snake in the world... Anything that can eat me, deserves to be the called the largest snake in the world... Facts or not... I don't care... I'm just telling you all that... There's no arguing with me abt. it either. I wld not be caught dead next to an Anaconda! Python maybe... But Anaconda? Anything that scares the living crap outta me that bad gets to be '"Largest snake in the world!" |

| Alexiia |
You comment about Anacondas not having fangs I believe to be false. I do have a picture of a very large Anaconda and it's mouth that I can send to you and show you that they do indeed have fangs, how else to they keep hold of their prey to wrap themselves around it? The snake in the picture must be about 30 feet and at least a foot in diameter. I can send you the picture if you have a wed-email page. And it shows an up-close and personal picture of the very WIDE open mouth. Lots of teeth! Just trying to help |

Okay people we need to stop all this arguing. According to our records, the reticulated python is the longest snake in the world, with its record at 33 feet. The ananconda is the largest snake, because it can weigh in at over 500 lbs., but it is shorter with its documented record long at 28 feet. There may be bigger snakes out there for either species, but no new records have recently come to light. A while ago the Bronx Zoo offered a $50,000 reward for the capture of a 30 ft. snake, but no one has yet to claim this prize. As for the 49 ft. 900 pound reticulated python in Indonesia, it turned out to be 28 feet long. |

This picture came from Erath County, Texas. The man with the snake owns Handy's Liquor Store in Dublin,Texas. He has hunted rattlers for a hobby for years. If you ever go to his store, you will see 2 other rattlers at least 8 foot in length, stuffed and mounted. TRUE - I see them at least once a week when I am there. |

The person who asserts that the largest snake in the world is the python, you are mistaken. The "longest" snake in the world has often been rumored to be a toss up between the python and the anaconda. However, the anaconda is typically twice the size, (mass) of the largest pythons. |

The anaconda, on average, is the heaviest of snakes. The reticulated python, however, is the longest, on average. |

Why the andaconda is a large snake, the largiest snake on record is the reticulated python.I'll give the andaconda the right of being called the bulkiest snake in the world but not longest. |

just so all you readers out there know, the anaconda is not the largest snake in the world, that title is held by the retuculated python, documented at 29 feet. |

So far Reticulated Pythons have been the longest snakes @ 33 ft and 320 lbs but more slender .Anacondas are not as long but more thick and heavier @ 28 ft and over 500 lbs.Green Anacondas are among the biggest but the latest report is that of a Reticulated Python @ 49ft and 985 lbs though not officially confirmed. http://pythonron.com/images/index.htm |

I think anacondas are amazing, although i would never want to come in contact with one w/o a thick fence of plexiglass or something between us. I love them b/c they are so large and it is amazing that their whole body is made of muscle. Snakes that big, imagine what would happen if they ever came to the U.S. They should make a movie about that,it'd be madd sweet! |
