Secret chamber may hold key to mystery of the Great Pyramid

Amateur French Egyptologists on track of 'lost' tomb of Cheops. It is one of the seven wonders of the world, but the precious objects the Great Pyramid was built to shelter for all eternity - the mummified remains of King Cheops or Khufu - have never been found, and are presumed to have been stolen by tomb robbers.

Chris Why would Dr Hawass stand in the way of a greater understanding of his ancestors? The simple and non intrusive fiber optic option propsed for the exploration of the chamber seemed like a perfect solution. Surely there could not be that much red tape to get through. They have been stalling for almost 15 years (when the possibility of chamber first came to light). May be I missing something and some one can explain to me why the authorities would not allow research and shroud everything in such secrecy. Surely the discovery would have a flow on effect in tourism and all associated flow on effect. 6/7/2006
