Well, fossils tell us that the cretozoic Terror Bird of modern Patagonia was also a ruminant, although it was a carnivore.
Slightly larger in size, its skeleton is remarkably similar and
it is often thought to be related to the elephant bird. Sadly, today,
the only giant birds remaining are the cassowary, ostrich, rhea,
and emu. |

The elephant bird was one of the few bird species to have been a ruminant. Basically foraging and regurgitating its food later to chew
it for digestion in its second stomach. This avian anomaly is thought
to have helped cause its extinction as it limited its food sources.
The colonial powers sought to suppress rebellious tribes by destroying crops and, inadvertently, the indiginous nuts and fruit
which the elephant bird was in fact limited to.
This was no mere oversized ostrich. |

Brooke i think they should take the intact eggs and try to clone one of them they should be very carful and try to not use up all the eggs they have but if they could clone a few maybe then they could bring the species back, but to clone these birds they are going to have to have a prity welthy sponser because cloning is expensive |

I thought that the article was decent! Although it would be a lot better if you would include on how the elephant bird became extinct. Also if you would include if it resulted in any other animal to become extinct or even endangered. It wiould be a lot more interesting, and understanding. i think that would make the article more likely to be read. Those are my comments. I like the article overall! GOOD JOB!!! |

I think that they should clone the animals so that they can live again. Although they should be very wise to the animals they choose to clone. It will help prevent extinction, i believe anyway. |
