In Praise of Chastity

The Silver Ring Thing is coming to Britain next weekend, but it's unlikely to stay long. It's the flagship event of the US movement to promote teenage chastity, and while the idea of kids queueing up to buy silver rings to pledge abstinence until marriage may go down well in the Bible belt, it's hard to imagine it touching a chord with British teenagers.

courtney I think that you shouldn't have to do some kind of act to get a fricken ring because my sister and I would like a ring .. but we have not performed any tasks that they mention you have to do to get a ring. It is soo stupid that you have to do that .. we are responsible enough to want to have a ring .. and we can't have one because we have to be involved in some program.. get a new business. 1/23/2005
Angie, UK The SRT is a great concept, but I have to question why they have got pictures of their crew looking oh so happy next to the promiscuous Christina Aguilera on their website. Be careful of those who preach but fall at the first hurdle when it comes to a little bit of publicity. I hear that a lot of people over here were used and then dumped at the end of the tour with no further contact. Not something I would go for. 7/30/2004
Sandy My daughter is very interested in this "Silver ring thing". Please give more information about teen support groups that are around for this program. 7/15/2004
E.A.C., USA How sad that you use your media influence to make abstinence until marriage seem like such an outlandish idea. How sad. 7/11/2004
