Cat Folks you can also buy heavy curtains with plastic for the windows to muffle sound and you can go to home depot. Look for thin foam wall panels in two different sizes. You can tape them to the wall, lighweight or use 3m hooks that are easily removable. or a small nail to tack the foam into the wall. the small hole than can be easily covered with out and toothpaste when you move out! 11/6/2008
Cat Great info. I know someone who is bothered by a dog barking in an apt. The person works nights. I am sending this link to them! 11/6/2008
AnonymousAnonym this was not usefull at all. I am in a rental apartment wich means I can't make any major changes to my unit. There needs to be more soundproofing information for people in my situation. I know there are many people in my situation. 8/13/2008
Doug Do you have any suggestions for windows that doesn't cost a fortune? I have very large windows in my apartment (approx. 100" x 70") that let sound in from the street. This includes buses, cars, people, etc. 7/26/2008
Mimi Hello, The key word is "apartment" which keeps most people from installing these products. I cannot pull up the carpet to install the vinyl. I am looking for a product that can be laid on the carpet and hopefully be attractive, such as an area rug with the foam or vinyl underneath without harming the carpet, owned by the landlord. Thanks. 8/29/2006
Kip Acoustic ceiling tiles will not "help greatly reduce sound transmission". The only purpose of ceiling tiles is to improve the sound quality of an existing room. As the top line of the page you linked too clearly states, "Acoustic ceiling tiles are special ceiling systems that are designed to reduce echo and improve acoustics within a room." However, applying mass loaded vinyl to the joists above the drop ceiling will reduce sound transmission. 5/28/2006
april t what if you are only living in your apartment for a short time or you do not want to mess up the walls or floors because of the landlord. 5/13/2006
