Book Review - The House on Prague Street

Originally published as 'Ein Haus in Bohmen' and translated from the German into English by its Czech author Hana Demetz, 'The House on Prague Street' is one of the most well-written books on the Holocaust that I've come across.

Sonal Panse To the angry Pole -

First of all, I'm not taking a personal poll - especially from anonymous strangers .

Secondly, changing word order isn't going to change the following facts :

1. Concentration Camps existed in Poland.

2. The Polish population did not rise up en masse to protest the existence of these.

3. In fact, after the war, many of the concentration camp survivors found it difficult/impossible to return back to their homes. Their homes were ransacked and they themselves were often beaten up or murdered.

4. Poland has had a long, vicious history of anti-semitism. Hopefully the present situation is a lot different . If not, you can save your energy in being offended by that.

To the angry German -

No, you have no more reason to assume personal guilt than any American or British citizen currently would for Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo. The Nazis were a dictatorship, these are self-proclaimed democracies with long-term goals of freedom and liberty. Not to mention free speech. So let's not be hypocrites.

Braydon - don't be a nitwit.

angry German If you want to talk semantics, you Polish Idiot, talk semantics all the way - those camps were NAZI.

I'm a German and I'm offended by your presumption.

I'm no more an anti-semite than probably you are.

I refuse to feel guilty about something I personally was never responsible for.

angry Pole The guy who wrote this review is an idiot. There has NOT ever been such thing as "Polish concentration camp". I'm from Poland and i feel offended. The camps were GERMAN and built on Polish soil. 1/27/2005
