Kristen i think getting a sex change is disgusting and against nature's way.Its probably a phase she or he is going through, and will regret it later in life.i am 13 and dream of being a guy sometimes, and sometimes don't like the fact i'm a girl, but i was made that way and happy iam a girl, because, either way i am special! 10/16/2005
Haley I think this is awful and something needs to be done. this child will probably regret this when it is older. i dont think children should be able to make those kinds of desicisons!!! 7/2/2005

saeeda ayiik i belive that children under the age of 18 should not have sex treatment because they are too young to make this choice .in this case Alex is agirl into psychological problems . she needs help and support not a change to be a boy . 4/26/2004
Aga I'm divided on this issue. I do think the kid is too young to be making that decision, especially with the confounding factor regarding the way he was raised. And I agree that treatment shouldn't be initiated while he's still suffering from major depression; in fact, the psychiatric evaluation shouldn't have been done if the child was suffering from it. The depression should've been treated first.

On the other hand, people who've transitioned do say that they felt trapped in their original sexes since they were kids, so presumably the diagnosis could be right.
What would really be funny is if the kid sues the government when he grows up.

Ashlee I have absolutely no problems with people getting a sex change if they feel that it would be best foe them. However, i think that 13 is far too young to make such an important decision, especially when this is the age where much confussion is roused. If, on the other hand, Alex was older I would have no aprehensions at all as she would be a lot more mature. I also don't feel comfortable about the circumstances. It has been said that Alex has been brought up as a male which would impact her greatly. Maybe she shoould seek pychological help as a teenager about this issue, and, if by the age she is 18 and she still feels the same way, then let it be. Once the decision has been made to undergo medical procedures, there's no turning back, so therefore, this decision should be looked in to more depth. 4/22/2004
