Hi there Mahakaal, Many many thanks for the info, I will be travelling to Haridwar when God permits. When I get there who should I ask for help to find the Aghori Sadhus. What would be a good starting point? You also mention that not only Aghoris are Tantriks but there are others too. Can I find accomplished Tantriks at Haridwar who are not lusting after money? I look forward to you posting s reply. One Love. |

Aghor is such a misunderstood sect. It is purest and highest school. Unrefined ones pose as aghoris to impress others. For real aghor read the book "Oasis of stillness" by Aughar Harihar Ram. |

Hi everyone, I found this forum whilst looking for info on Aghori Sadhus. Does anyone know where I can find an Aghori Sadhu as I would love to meet them. My reason to see a Aghori Baba are of a spiritual nature, I have heard and read that the Aghori's are highly acomplished in Siddhi's and therfore possess powers that can cure people of ghosts and black magic. I want to get myself checked out aswell as close relative of mine. I know that they reside near cremation grounds but are there any at Haridwar? Does anyone have ANY info that will help me. Any replies are GREATLY appreciated. One Love. |

hallo all i dont know much about aghors but recently i came across one tantrik and i was quite surprised that istead of the wrong image that i had of them the babaji appeared to be extremely polished and knowledgable. His predictions from seeing the photograph of certain people was more or less true.I was astonished that in this age of supercomputers and quantum mechanics, this type of things still hold true.Actually since i was quite a socalled rational person, previously i used to scoff at this things, but now after meeting this person i have understood that there are things which are even more complexthan nth dimensional differential equation. |

the smashaan ghat you will take ages to understand on what thinking process he works and his logic is very diffrent or say almost opposite to what you have learnt thruoghtout you life time ..so if you can forget about the whole topic it would be good for you but if still you are persistent start working and try to find a real guy...... you cannot be into this by doing an office of 9 to 5 and giving it 20 mins on this blog site... it requires time sometimes years to understand things and once get that understanding you go up and you belong to the real cllas of those who are very close to that supreme... and if you reject all this and think you have your god with you and you are very close to him i am really hapy for you bcoz you will go where i will go..that is the aim is to be one with god.... go the way you want to and if you have chosen this so let me tell you you have chosen a very tough path... see you soon ppl. thats it for now am tired typing.. tk kare baba ki jai ho abhinav |

so the real ones are at present this very moment working to reach towards the supreme.its like you drive a car at 125 kmph and there are no brakes,so GUYS THIS PATH IS DANGEROUS and you need those guts that you sit in a smashaan ghat naked and due your puja under able guidance of your competent guru..and sir delhi bombay i dont say that metros dont have but the stats sohow that the frequecy is really know so you have to go into the real india to see and face them and then there always the risk as you dont know what mood are they into so you see its a very tough aim to go for.. but those who have the zeal and have had their tonic of aghora at the left hand of god wil do everything to follow it .for the beginers i suggesr robert e svoboda triology and for the advanced i recommend sir john woodroffe.. so plz read and get your sef the correct info on the subject and do work on your knowledge as like is more then the page3 lifestyle and status and reputation and marrige and family and everything very normal and mundane.. to be an true aghori you have to really mad bcoz you do what you opt and dont bak out... the real ppl can still be foungd in girnar kamakhya tarapith and mayong north to assam and it is said that once you entre mayon thats the name of the place you dont return bak and it is absolutely true .. so watch b4 you take this path and yup one more think what do you think that will it be you that will make a chice i am soory to say sir if its in your destiny or to be more accurate if its in your karm to be an aghori no body can stop you you have to be .. its one path to reach the divine very diffrent from others and its not necessary that you chose this path but the quality of this line is that if you have astable and consistent mind you be very fast thats neon gas cylinders in your bike like dhoom ... so plz all the ppl there dont tk it as a joke and yup someone commented that \they drink their own urine yup ye do once in a blu moon or may be just a bit more but whatever that guy does out there in |

hi to all so i am bak friends to find myself between you with some new opinions and info to be shared first of all i would like to comment over ma'a,m prerna as we all know she tryin to dominate the whole thing so you see this does not work to be bossy all the time like your elder brother.next coming to rahul you need to learn more and have an indepth info on the subject.. mr sudhir you are in demand bcoz of the info you provided us with .mr gadhiya my regards to you and do email me and tell me if you can courier me the books.. coming to the point i suggest you ppl to read more bcoz thats the only source to get more authentic info or if by gods supreme grace you in touch of an aghori.so ppl let me make one thing very clear this no a blog to market the whole subject and it also not a promotion of an aghori sect with all the spicy masala supporting it . i suggest ppl who just want to get high by thinking that they know something about the subject to keep away from this section plz.bcoz its not that simple as eating a bubblegum am not exagrating but ppl who are deep into the practise know that this is a type of a warning for those who think it to be a piece of cake. what ever an agori does is not ment to be seen by masses its his own private affair and you are invading someones privacy anyways as it is the nature of ppl to invade privacy i have known much wha i have learnt is as i am a follower of shakti and i am devoted to my isht i suggest that the first thing you need is to get correct knowledge about the subject and now you ask how i tell you search net and keep on reading and you yourself start recognizing that what is write and wrong and. rites which are left in nature and which seem tamsik as said by rahul as far as i remember as said by rahul is one very fierce way to reach the divine which is only attempted by the vir sadhaks.so not everybody is required to go that way.we ppl are only here discussing about those gr8 aughars who are very few in number and who are not available as they dont roam on the road and you have make an effort and go and search for them and even if you find one you have to be that intelligent to know weather he is of some substance or another duplicate |

Hi Prerna,
How's life been. Saying Hi after a long time. :) Prerna, waisey the tone of your article does tilt towards being disgusted ... which is not right for someone who is writing an article meant to act as an information provider on a specific topic. The feeling should be neutral. Esp, your line saying that they eat rotten, dead meat ... well, we all do. All the chicken, meat etc. that we eat, IS dead, and at some degree of rottenness. Meat is meat. As an intelligent species, we all need to be more compassionate and tolerant towards others ... towards everyone. As long as they are not really harming anyone, let them be.
I met this woman once who told that an aghori had helped a woman concieve (not by doing it himself :)), after she failed to get pregnant after trying for many years, with mantras and all. I have heard a lot of such stories, where, although considered weird, these sadhus have helped many people in really big ways.
Even otherwise, help or no help, as long as they live their own lives, in their own worlds, I don't see how me getting bothered is going to help. Afterall that's their lifestyle. I enjoy my world, they have a right to enjoy theirs. We have no right to judge whats disgusting, whats not. :) |

hey guys ,
thanks Prerna , for ur reply . sorry for the delay .
dear sudhir , i totally agree with ur observations . Any person with siddhis will never like to show off , and aghori's are no expectations . well there r few aghoirs who have perfected the act of paradvigyan (ie. art of making gold from pure mercury ) or Popularly known as Science of alchemy to the west .
AS aghoir's have left there materialistic life , and have no craving for money or things it can bring along , gold is of no use to them . So ironic .
Some of them are also know to possess siddhis like levitation, kaal gyan (ie. knowledge of time , some what like nostodomus had ,can see future /past ) and can even bring a dead person to life .
any person possessing such siddhis will never go against the nature , therefore will never do anything stupid to destroy balance and harmony, therefore these people will never showoff .
Brandon , dude all the knowledge u have is superficial , regarding the no of aghoirs living in India , to have a proper statistics is impossible as many of them stay inside dense forest and many never come out in there lifetime. Regarding black magic , like everything there are two sides of the coin .
Black magic or simply “tantra” called here in India , also has two sides .
The bad or evil tantra “tamsik” which associates itself with blood, flesh ,alcohol and animal sacrifice and also has serious aftermath . harming anyone with this type of tantra is very much possible . u can find ppl practicing this tantra anywhere and everywhere in India . general population is mostly aware of this tantra . West is also is aware of this type of tantra or black magic . but as compare to Indian sages knowledge is very little .
The other part is called as “Satvik“ which is not at all involved with blood or flesh or sacrifice . infact a coconut is given as a sacrifice in here . it involves with taking oneself to a higher level . and performing sadhanas of very high level. In this type of tantra harming anyone in not possible . Knowledge of tantra is very rare and can be obtain from a guru only . Sudhir must be mentioning aghoirs practicing this type of tantra .
Aghoris in general practise both type of tantra .
Sudhir thanks for ur insight.
Regards, Rahul |

Hi Sudhir, I am from Junagadh and have been to Shivratri Melas and bin to alos Bhavanath Taleti and Brham Kund. I have bin many times to Girnar and may be doing again in Nov. I agree fully with you about Aghoris. Have read these books by Shri Mohanlal Agrwal and is originally written in Gujarati, but tranalation is done in many language. Names of books are "Aghor Nagara Vage" part-1 and part-2. Mr. Mohanlal is from Surendranager/Gujarat. He himself is a family man but came in contact with aghoris through his father's devotion to saints and his own contacts to various temples in the region?. Is there a way to contact you? You may send me an e-mail to bpgadhia@yahoo.com. Bharat. |

Dear Friends,
I am telling you all this things, because you people only know the sect of Aghoris who eats flesh & drinks wines, but trust me there are AGHORIS who in their whole spiritual life never consumed wines or taken flesh. Its a fact.
Believe me there are Aghoris who are pure veg. eating sadhus living in the dense forests & tunnels in the Girnar Mountains & surroundings. We cannot see them, they can only be seen during shivratri mela, & you will not believe more than 10 to 15 lakhs people gather (at night) in this mela at Bhavnath in Girnar just to have a glimpse for 10 to 15 minutes of these aghoris. They are the original sadhus having immense powers, but will never show off.
I know about them, because my Guru belongs to Aghori sect of Nath Sampraday, & I am a part of that spiritual world.
Believe it or not |

Prerna I was looking up information on the Aghoris and found your editorial....and I'm not sure why you sound upset? From what I have been able to find from valid sources, the number of practicing Aghoris is estimated at a total of 30 and since the goal of the sex yoga practiced by the men is penial nerve damage from dragging heavy weights around, it isn't like they are going to be making little Aghoris. They weird you out and the TV likes to cover them every once in a while, get over it. From everything I have been able to discover, they do not appear to harm people, the "human sacrifice" line sounds like scared lies from scrared people who have never even met them. They do forbidden things, hoorah, I'm actually looking forward to trying to find some of them when I visit India in 2006. I have studied and practiced Black Magick for the past 20 years, an act that is fairly hated in the West, and although I have never engaged in necromancy, I agree with everything I have read about the Aghori's on a Philisophical level. I think it would be interesting to talk to them about their practices and observe them up close, instead of on the tv, even though I doubt I would wish to participate. I would also like to give them a bottle of American bourbon as a gift...of which they can enjoy from a human skull if they like. |

Hi Rahul and Prerna, With great interest i read your postings on this forum. As I am not a literary person and come from IT field, but would like to draw your attention to my posting on the subject of Aghoris...where I refer to books on Aghroris by a reputed author Mr.Mohanlal Agrwal. He spent life time with different types of Aghori Mahatmas and shows why they do what they do and aghoris are divided in various sects like Ramanandis, Bhjanandis, Shaivaites etc and each have their owb rituals and traditions. He menttions many aghoris who just meditate and live on some fruits and flowers. So do not eat at all!! It is true that western media is after sensation( man biting dog type) and not interested in finding truth. Hope we have a nice and enlightining postings.

Hi Rahul, Thanks for your enlightening comments. If you would notice the article is based on certain facts, though still at the research stage. I am glad that you could fill in more in terms of information rather than I did. What I wrote was based on facts written by human beings, and because human beings tend to err, it's possible that the material was not written or researched. there have been many who are fascinated by the world of Aghoris but not all of them who can do justice to their deviant life styles. Hope you can fill in with more inputs from your end. After all we are all in the learning process, no one is right or wrong, it's just a bent of mind. Regards prerna |

Aghori ,A follower of the Aughadd sect. One who has liberated himself from the eight vices, viz. expectation, fear, greed, aversion, bodily pleasures, sham, abhorrence and prestige, which are considered as the major obstacles in the path of spiritual enlightenment.
Simple and short definition of a Aghori .
Prerna i must say that u have a good command over English . but , i am sorry to say ur article fails to capture the spiritual side of Aghoris and why this practice of worship is there . Hinduism is one of the oldest and the most elaborated religion in the world, with 2 million gods and goddess , with detailed explanation for each and every thing. There are reasons for this type of sect to emerge and do such activities .
Instead of doing research on this, All u have provided is filmy masala for the crowd, eating human flesh, sex and what not , which I must say ppl have really enjoyed and got fascinated by it .
But, as a responsible writer u failed to provide a proper justification to article. And really failed to understand wht happens to a person .so, that he becomes a aghori.
More over, your sources have misguided u. A person can never become god . if any one thinks in this way , he is taken over by ego ,false pride , arrogance and fails the very basic objective , for which he transformed his life. here becoming a Aghori .
As goes for the rest of the crowd impressed by this article , Dont go by the dumb westners , who take Indian culture as an amusement , something like going to Zoo and watching diff animals. Prerna , pls reply on the same. |

I think Aghori is a tribe that should be study in the art of there practices.I have ment an Aghori tribe in india they believe putting ashes and eating huming flesh would bring them closer to god. |

That is true. All Aghoris are not the same as was on Wildboyz. I imagine the stuff they couldn't show you that they alluded to, dealt with flesh eating and sexual practices.
Mystie, you think these people are more spiritual than Americans because they rub the ashes of corpses and run around like drunken bums? You have a warped sense of the world. They are no more spiritual then anyone else. The people that were on Wildboyz are insane outcasts. The fact that you think that frightens me. You are an idiot who needs a wake up call. |

Hi John, I have read many books and articles on Aghoris. All aghoris do not follow same rituals. There are vrious sects in Aghoris. There are those who constantly prey to god and are called "Bhajanandis". There are others who remain aloof in Himalyas and do yogas and meditation and not at all follow the tradition of Aghoris eating flesh etc. They are eat only fruits and roots of plants and trees. Bharat. |

I first heard about the aghori's on MTV's Wildboyz and i was stunned at what i saw. They drink their own urine and they tried to bite Steve O's leg. It was pretty insane because no other type of people do that kind of stuff. |

I met an American dreadlock Aghori baba in varanassi in the year 2000 in a cafe in the back streets. I was trying to eat when he aproached me waving a piece of charred flesh, saying that it was human flesh an that to eat it was the highest practice.. he was sporting 3 skulls, a mans, womans, and a baby's skulls which fitted inside each other with a piece of black cloth over them. I declined and asked him what he thought of cjd.? he said that 80% of aghori flesh eaters die young, his own guru dying at the age of 24yrs... I asked him if he ate him? he smiled and said "no but i'd liked to have". I then asked him if he cooked the flesh? he replied yes. I asked him why he didn't eat it raw, and he said that it would make him ill...!! I called him disfunctional and said " you go out into nature and look at the insects and the animals you see there and tell me which one of them first cooks their food before eating it? He could'nt answer me, so I said that He was disfunctional and it wasn't the highest practice... This made him get out of my face, shut up, sit down and think for a while... and I resumed my thali.... He was just an attention seeker trying to freak me out, but I was unvexed. He told me that he'd been there for 10 yrs eating flesh and said " I just go down to the pyres or the morge and cut off a bit of flesh, everyone in this town respects me...". I said" they down respect you, they fear you....!" He told me he was from the States and liked the band ' the grateful dead'... Told me he'd suffered from polio and lost his leg and was using a cane to walk. He invited me to his place to look at a skelington he had collected in the dry season from the riverbed, told me he had encrusted it with jems and crystals... but I declined................!!!!!!!!!!! I think he was a real ego tripping overstayer who had lost the plot, a lost soul.... who went around trying to get a reaction from tourists, but he didn't in my opinion seem a threat to me, and i've travelled all over this globe to some pretty remote places. I just think that he was full of himself and talking a lot of blah, blah.! In reality he and any aghori are the self reflection of the parts of all people that they are not willing to accept. Everyone on this planet who induges in the poisons of cooked food, drink, drugs, gambling and uncontrolled lustfull sex are no different to any aghori. there is no seperation, human, chicken, beef, fish , to eat it is a crime against that which you come from and where you will go to( the source of all creation ). Seek for wholeness and purify yourselves why you still have time, because when your body's gone you will still long for that which taints my pure expression, how can I hope to manifest where there is such filth.......!!!!!!!! Make your actions graceful because there is not enough physical time left on this planet to live out your karma's. Never mind your head, hold your hat on, it's gonna be a rough ride |

Nothing can ever justify the evil practices of the aghori sadhus. How can Hindus tolerate all this bestial and evil stuff and accept it as their own. I think it is time the dharamgurus spoke out against this bestial barbarism and disowned it. |
