Atom Bomb: Technique and theory used to make one

America used it on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Millions died instantly and generations were crippled. What makes the atom bomb tick? What is the theory behind nuclear fission and fusion? A brief educational description on how an atom bomb works and its various components like altimeter, air pressure detonator, detonating head, Conventional Explosive Charge(s), Neutron Deflector, Uranium & Plutonium, Lead shield and fuses.

sorry... Hi;

I read the first two sentences of this article and decided to stop. I think it needs some proof-reading and fact-checking. First, "two kinds", "fission and fission" is not quite right. Second, energy is not measured in volts - voltage is a measure of force...

francis Needs to be a correction under the topic "Atom Bomb: Technique and theory used to make one"

In the following line
"The First important concept for understanding the working of an atom bomb and hydrogen bomb is to understand Nuclear Fission and Nuclear Fission."

It should be Nuclear Fission and Nuclear Fusion

Instead it was written as "Nuclear Fission and Nuclear Fission."

Matthew Olivia, thank you for posting your correction of Mr. Purohit's glaring statistical error. "Millions" is an unforgivably excessive exaggeration, especially when one considers that the combined pre-bomb population of both cities was no more than 700,000 (proably closer to 600,000). Mr. Purohit, your scientific information was impeccable, but I do suggest you do your historical research as well. 2/3/2005

edward berlanga i think that atomic boms are dangerous because the past years innocent people have died.IF the president or the govorment knew a atomic bomb was coming then why?didn't they evacuate the locatoin that the bomb is heading.I may be a 12 year old but that's stupid letting your people die.IF i was president i woud let the people know that a bomb is coming so that they can leave town/city/country/or state ahead of time,not for me but for everybody's safety.Well that's all i got to say ,i hope everyone agrees on my comment !BYE! 7/26/2004
olivia "America used it on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Millions died instantly and generations were crippled."'
This statement of yours is incorrect. Millions did not die instantly in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In Hiroshima, around 140,000 people died by the end of the year, and in Nagasaki, around 70,000 people died by the end of the year. Although more did die later due to radiation, a combined 210,000 people died within a year of the explosion in both cities, which, is not "instantly."
