Bollywood ... the New Hollywood?

| Basu | There is a small population in Western countries and Japan who have a growing interest in bollywood and south indian movies. Bollywood was very popular in many parts of Africa like Ghana and the former Soviet Union. Many of my African and Russian friends have told me so. Besides there is a segment of the Japanese, Chinese and Western European population especially among its womenfolk who have begun to love bollywood movies. But many of my other western and East Asian friends (predominantly male) find bollywood movies ridiculous and make jokes of it. These people may like movies like 'Bend it like Beckham' but pure bollywood is a bit too much for them. I believe this group of people will never be a bollywood market. One more point to be noted is that many white and Chinese guys consider musicals (even the western ones) too feminine. This could explain the difference between the genders in my friends in their opinion of bollywood. | 8/28/2006 |
| Reuben | I think Bollywood isnt that great as portrayed by Indians. Most of the audiences watching hindi movies are Indians living abroad.Thou i know some non indians who watch hindi movies but are from afghanistan or middle easterners and that too in few numbers. But after Bollywood representing their actresses in a s.lutty form makes Indians loose its identity with weird nude songs like a start of a triple x porn movie. | 8/23/2006 |
