Goat lady in NY I have personally met Mr. Considine and his family through my many years of raising dairy goats and he has even judged my animals at many shows. He is a kind man towards all and holds the dairy goat industry with care. He is an advocate for the industry and I agree with the above statement about the sources of these allegations. I firmly disagree with this "story" of cruelty. He is a man of character, morale, and kindness that only those who have met him know. God bless to the Considine family. 9/19/2004
Theresa I suspect that Daniel Considine is able to use his position to his advantage to get away with what he is doing to these animals. I too am a goat farmer, and have many friends who are goat farmers. None practice the cruel behaviors Mr. Considine calls common practice. I also disagree that this is the persecution of a small farmer, he is after all a very well known breeder, with top bloodlines. If you feel you have a kid that is not up to snuff for breeding or show purposes, by all means send them my way Mr. Considine, my kids are bottle fed, some in my dining room for months if it's too cold outside. Not once have I said sorry you aren't good enough, off to slaughter with you. Mr. Considine is also on leave as President of the American Dairy Goats Association, small farmer my butt! Shame on you Mr. Considine, admit your wrongs and take your lumps. 8/31/2004
Desi This is simple persecution of a small farmer. Cruelty to animals is not only wrong but it's bad business for small operations. After looking at some court records (anyone can do this give it a try!), it seems likely to me that the folks who brought the allegations have a grudge and are having a great time trying to take down an honest small farmer. If you want the future to be a bunch of factory farms with goats in little boxes all their lives, by all means keep supporting grinding the little guy into the ground! 8/24/2004
Len Culling of newborn livestock is a common practice. The C-section may have been an emergency situation. The lighting-on-fire charge sounds absurd. I question your sources. 7/12/2004
Rene Personally, I consider this an outrage against Daniel. There are thousands of livestock owners as well as processing plants who employ similar methods of dispersing unwanted animals as well as drowning them. I stand behind Daniel and I pray that he wins. 4/26/2004
Lauraking I think that that guy should burn in hell. But i mean i am not being mean or anything he ruined goats life. 4/6/2004
Goat Lady in GA This is a hornets nest of partial information. All aspects of a situation need to be involved in any educated opinion. If you don't have all the information, keep your personal assumptions to yourself! 4/5/2004
