Randy I believe we underestimate the intelligence and awareness of our fellow creatures. If we could somehow put ourselves inside their minds we would likely be surprised. Recognizing that some people can live their entire lives hearing foreing speech and never understand it, we should not unfairly judge our pets' intelligence if we have trouble communicating with them. Nikki illustrates what an appropriate voice box and a little motivation can produce. 8/3/2006
Chris Nikki is hardly the first african grey to use speech in a meaningful way. Dr. Irene Pepperberg has been working with a gery named alex for over 20 years. 5/10/2004
Teddi Black We also have an African Grey Parrot in our family with surprising similarities. Boo is a ten year old, with an incredible vocabulary. He calls everyone in the family by name and has even tricked me by using my daughter's voice and saying "Mommy, I need you." When I went to check on my daughter, who was sound asleep, my silly bird laughed at me!!!!!! Boo is truely a part of our family inb every way! 2/24/2004
